I currently only have the Irish TV chanels ie Rte1, 2, TV3 and TG4 and only have an indoor ariel. I am now going to get set up for Saorview what is the best option for me so that i can get as many free TV chanels as possible. Someone mentioned getting a dual box. I dont mind getting an ariel or dish.

Freesat box with built in Saorview..

Oh.. you'll need to get a dish too actually for Freesat

That's not a freesat box, its a free to air satellite receiver combined with an mpeg 4 receiver for Irish channels. Don't expect to get the full saorview or freesat service from it.

This thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056713037 has some good advice on receivers.

Whoops - misread the product description..

    It does say:
This combo HD box will allow you to watch Freesat channels from the UK using a 60 cm dish (sky dish) as well as the new Irish digital service using an aerial.

.. unsure if there is a box that will do both Saorview and Freesat from a quick glance.

No there isn't, there are approved saorview combi boxes with free to air combined. Only real issue with them is the frequency changes on satellite, some people detest having to retune when a channel changes frequency. The approved combi's will have digital teletext but if thats not an issue then a combi like the ariva is pretty good, there are threads on here though where there were a lot of issues with them. Approved is beat imo as it is guarenteed to work with any future saorview services.

And the fact they cost about twice as much as the likes of the Ariva.

And the fact they cost about twice as much as the likes of the Ariva.

That's because they are 'Saorview approved' and they are guaranteed to work with all Saorview services present and future

+ there is no combo box that is anywhere related to Freesat

If that's how they're being sold, I foresee a lot of disappointed people whenever this "future" arrives.

Well yes they are being sold that way, Saorview recommend them because of future services and don't recommend non approved receivers so why would they be sold any other way? In truth nobody knows what may or may not happen and disappointment could just as easily be on the side of people who do choose non approved receivers. The only way to be sure is with an approved receiver so I don't see what the problem is with recommending them.
