The Worst Racing Special ever?

Boyles have/had a special for Galway and in my opinion, it has to be the worst one I have ever seen.
Money Back if 10th (a play on the Galway Tent!) in one race every day for max refund of €50!
    10th?
    One race a day?
    Max €50
Terrible offer, would expect more from Boyles.

Wasn't around but I assume they did 5 places in the Plate & Hurdle?

Why is it a terrible offer? If they offered no money back special at all would you be on here complaining then?

Ladbrokes don't do money back specials, and either do a lot of other high street bookies. Boyles are giving money back on a horse if it finishes 10th and you call that a terrible offer? The mind boggles.

i saw it in their shop window and did a double take, so see if my eyes were deceiving me

What clown thought that one up ??

You,re backing a horse on the basis you believe it will win. most normal "money back" offers apply to your horse finishing 2nd which is fair enough. It's an insult to a punter to offer a cash back on the basis of your selection finishing 10th !!

an insult to punters imho,. and one that probably cost Boyles zero:rolleyes:

rememember J Boyle..it is the staff you have hypnotised not the punters !!

I did a double take when I saw this. Are you guys serious?? Please tell me you're not. An Insult to punters? Boyles one job is to price up markets for punters to bet on. Everything else is a bonus, not an obligation. If you backed the favourite and he jumped terribly and you knew your dough was done...and then found out later that he finished 10th...you'd be happy wouldn't ya? As far as bonuses go, it's not up there with a bookies paying out on a team 3 months early or something like that but it's a bonus, designed to be quirky.

so it's not a great offer but the only money back offer out
there for the races at galway
I doubt anyone would have gone to boyles for this in the offchance that
your selection runs that badly but if you happen to have a decent bet
on a horse that runs badly then you'll be a very relieved punter should it finished 10th in that race
better than nothing not an insult at all

    scratch all that

    its a great offer
only after finding out that it applied to the first race at galway today
i backed welds horse in that so i get my stake back
its only a fiver but im happy with it

thanks op as i wouldnt even have thought of looking at it otherwise only
    for this thread

    It was a terrible offer.
1 race every day Money Back if 10th to a max stake of €50.
Boyles are the 2nd biggest bookies in Ireland.
To come up with a Money Back offer if 10th for 1 race for €50 is a joke.
They used to be €200 refund, reduced it to €100 and now it's €50

Bar One (not a big player) were Money Back if 2nd beaten up to a neck all races Galway & Goodwood max refund €100

Paddy Power had money backs if 2nd or 2nd to a specific horse Galway & Goodwood races max refund €200.

Ladbrokes (we all know) don't even bother doing a money back 2nd to the fav in an ordinary handicap race any more so there no chance of them doing anything out of the ordinary.

    Why were Boyles €50?
It was one of the biggest weeks racing of the year!
It wouldn't encourage me to go and have a bet with them based on that offer.

    damn it

can't get to pp during the week and lads are just pants

that concession by bar one by far the best
tried to avoid it myself given the proximity to the racecourse and
the traffic but i regret it now

not good by boyles at all now that i know what the others were offering

Boyles used to completely suck, not quite so bad now, am I right?

When PP do their first goalscorer money back specials their odds are always worse than the competitions. So to put it as a slate against ladbrokes that they don't do these specials is missing out on the bigger picture.

    This is what I said

I was talking about Money Back Horse Racing Specials, I never mentioned 1st goalscorer or soccer, the whole thread was about HR Specials.

I wasn't calling you out, I was just saying bookies make up for these offers by reducing the odds. So those that don't do offers are where the value really is.

    They all suck any way!

prob working on the spec most people would not have a clue who finished 10th thus no payout

agree. how many people would bother checking who came 10th ?

Powers often have "special" doubles advertised that pay barely more than coupling them in a double eg 10/3 Horse X & Y both to win, work it out using their single prices and it could be in the region of 4.25-4.3

While their "while stocks last" specials are often huge arbs just as many aren't even top high street price

Ladbrokes offered nrmb on the plate and the hurdle from very early, I think from when the weights were released. Thats a better offer than money back on tenth is it not?

Powers seem to be a shower of 3 card tricksters. They had a special on Katie Taylor to win by 10 points or more at 7/4 the last day. Big screen enhanced & seemed to be popping up on 5 different screens at once across the shop.

The same bet in Ladbrokes with no special enhanced? 5/1

    Gangsters

And those stupid racing specials they have up all the time, wide berth

    Wouldn't disagree with you there.

That's a big difference all right.
Don't get into a PP that often (rumours of a new shop opening right beside Boyles & Ladbrokes in Stillorgan though :)) but they do have a good offer called While Stock Lasts - most of them are an arb ;) but haven't seen in it in a while :(.
Reminds me of Crumlin where there were 4 bookies with 50m of each other.
Hills closed to leave 3 and Ladbrokes do little or no business there.
    Competition :D.
