Hi, I am looking for advice about what car I should buy for autocross as I want to start autocrossing together with my two friends.
We don't have money to buy already build rally car, so we are going to build it up by ourselves. Our funds are around €300-€400 just for a car not counting rollcage, seats, etc.

I have a list of cars we could get:

    -Ford Escort/Sierra/Focus
    -Peugeot 106/206/306
    -Toyota Corolla
    -Opel Astra
    -Suzuki Swift
    -Daewoo Lanos
    -Honda CRX/Civic
    -Ferrari F430 Spider :D
    -Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6/Colt
    -Fiat SC/CC
    -Mazda 323
    -VW Golf mk. 2/3
    -Renault Clio
    -Citroen Saxo

Would any of these would be good ?
Or should we think about getting something else ?

    Thanks with Advance :)

I'm looking at getting into Autocross too. I was looking at Micra's a while back as they seem to be quite popular.

I think also that Starlet is the best choice.
As Daniel said Micra is also popular.. I don't know why-probably cheap to maintain..

Of course F430 Spider would bring you a notch closer to the action when you can feel wind, dust and gravel in your face but doesn't have the same reliability as mentioned Japanese tin cans :P

Hadn't thought of a starlet, thatd be a nice one. But probably more expensive to buy than a micra.

I was actually thinking now between Peugeot 206 and an Old Suzuki Swift.
They are my top favourites because of their small body, cheap maintenance and widely accessible parts for a good price.

I have also made a list of More/Less Costs to get a car ready for race.

    Car - €350
    Bucket Seats: €195.57

    4 Point Harnesses: €172.20

    Rollcage - €400-500
    Fire Extinguisher: €81.18
    Suit: €276.75

    Helmet: €139.10

    Gloves: €54.24

Looking at your costs why don't you just buy a race prepared car?

It's because we don't have enough money to spend straight away, and if we buy a car and then start getting parts for it, we stretch that €2000 in longer period of time.

Race prepared cars are piss cheap. Where are you based? I'm 19 and my brother is 17 and were looking to build or buy one also. I'm doing mechanical engineering and have built a single seater race car, so I've a fair idea about what im doing. I'm thinking of either getting a race prepared one that needs repair or just going on done deal, search through Clare and find the cheapest repairable hatchback.

Also, you should definitely be going second hand on gloves, boots etc (not helmet). Also €50 is enough for new boots off you want them.

I'm based in Kilcoole Co. Wicklow. My brother and father are mechanics so they will help me with a car.

And yes, I will get a second hand suit.

Would it be possible to build a car that can compete in Autocross and Rallycross?

Good Luck with it man, I am giving it up for atleast this year. It's too expensive and I'm going to 6th year now, so there will be no time to work and get enough money for it.
