Just a heads up about this event in Laois on Sunday 19th August.

It starts in Portlaoise Rugby Club and there'll be 100km (heading towards the Slieve Blooms and taking in 2 climbs), 40km and 5km options with all proceeds going to the Cuisle Cancer Support Centre.

Sign on for the 100km route at 9am (departs 10am), sign on for the 40km route at 10am (departs 11am) and then there's a high nelly and family cycle at 2pm. It's €25 for a family, €20 for individuals and €10 for the high nelly cycle. There will be refreshments on the day and all proceeds go to the charity.

All the info should be here or on the facebook site (www.facebook.com/cuislecyclechallenge)

Excellent - nice route and a really good cause. I should be back on the bike in time for this.

Pity that this would clash with the Leinster Loop, ideally I'd be interested in doing both, two sportives within 40km on the same day doesn't seem to be a great idea.

To be honest, I think it's pretty hard to get a date to suit everyone these days, what with the amount of sportives on. I'm very fond of cycling in the Slieve Blooms, so I'll line out for the Cuisle one.

Agreed about the difficulty with dates though if this one was on the Saturday it would have made for a very nice cycling weekend. Like the Slieve Blooms myself so will have a job deciding where to go.

Hmmmmm, in-ter-est-ing.....I have "unfinished business" with The Slieve Blooms...... think I left a piece of my lower lip there last year...... I may have to go back and teach those hills a lesson. This may be my opportunity!

Thanks! Pity I couldn't make it today, but I'm hoping to be back in the saddle shortly. Should see you on the 19th in Portlaoise.

Just giving this a bump in case anyone else is interested. Because there's a chance I might be able to get some grain cut, I won't be able to make it, but hopefully it's a good day out for everyone who does.

My wheat isn't fit but some of the neighbours are hammering away, always makes me jumpy when I see combines working and mine is parked up.

I'd love to have taken this in but my mates want to go to the Leinster Loop, it'll be something to look forward to next year, I hope everyone that goes has a ball and gets home safe.

I'm sitting in front of my computer waiting for my spring barley to dry out enough to get into it!

Lovely day for a bike ride - hope there's a big crowd out and a hatful of money raised for the centre.
