Our Springer Spaniel went missing in Macroom, Cork, yesterday afternoon(wednesday 1st August). She is a brown and white, tall young bitch and was last seen in the Codrum area of Macroom, any information on the whereabouts of her greatly appreciated.

    Have a look here -
    http://www.westcorkanimals.com/lost-found/lost-dog-information/
Ring the County Pound ASAP - 021 4285404 - and leave a description.
If I was you I would try the local gun clubs and Harrier and Foxhound packs - most people just don't notice a strange dog wandering around - these people will.

Thanks for the reply and she is chipped so if she is handed in somewhere we should get her back.

You might try the Cork and Animals forums here too.

Apart from putting leaflets on cross streets for a quarter mile in each direction from where she was lost and from your house, the other great thing to do is to give laminated leaflets and ask for them to be displayed in the places where people go out to walk the streets - your local postal sorting office, your local garda station, local schools, binmen, road cleaners, etc. And parks.

Leaflets should have a colour picture and say something like "LOST: Minnie (or whatever her name is): dog (springer spaniel), x years of age, microchipped, beloved family pet, missing since xx o'clock on xx date. Beloved family pet, please help us to bring her home. Phone 08xxx."

Don't give your address (there are criminals who'll phone and then rob your house while you're out), and I've never found a reward helped; people who want money aren't the ones who find your dog or cat, people with good hearts are. Of course, if someone does help you find her, you'll bring a big box of chocolates to them in their sorting office or garda station, etc.

Also, check the local pounds - don't rely on phoning, go down and keep going down to check for yourself. They say they'll phone you, but sometimes things go wrong and they don't.

Thanks for all the helpful advice and best wishes but I am pleased to say we have her back now. A phone call from a house about half a mile away saying that a brown dog had been seen jumping a wall was followed up by my lad who found her having a whale of a time running through deep cover. Wet, filthy and hungry but otherwise in good form she is now back where she belongs. Thanks again for taking the time to read and post advice. :)
