Buying tyres

    1) I need a new tyre 225/40/R18, I have Continentals on the car at the moment, I heard from people that eiretyres is great for savings, I am in the Cork area, Advance Pitstop locally sell my tyres for €180 last one I got, on eiretyres Continental Sportcontact 3 cost €166 and an extra €10 because I am buying one item plus €10 to fit, have alloys extra €2 and €1 for disposal, total €189 no saving at all, am I missing something here I hear lots of people praise this website for great deal but for me I don't see a real saving.

    2) Also I would like to ask, other than Continentals is there another brand preferably cheaper with as good wear or better and good in wet & dry conditions alike. the car is a high performance so I don't want something the car will chew to pieces very fast. Is it okay to mix tyres lets say two bridgestones on the rear, two contentinals up front, the business end. Came with Continentals first day and I stayed with them tbh I am happy with them, just want to know how good the other brands are, is the grass greener, also i got a lecture from a tyre guy that 1 in 3 new cars have continentals so they must be good. Cheers :)

    Try Camskill.co.uk. ;)

I'm also looking at 225/40/18's at the moment and I'm either gonna go with Toyo Proxes T1 R's, Falken 452's or Pilot Sport 3's. :)

I bought Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas in the same size from Camskill earlier this year and they cost around €130 each. I'm very happy with their performance so far.

    Try Fastfit in Togher - 2 mins from Advanced Pitstop - 021 496 1022.

I have no connection to them BTW - just find them cheaper over the last 5 yrs.

I have found cheaper tyres - but needed to get tracking etc done afterwards, and TBH the hassle and time were not worth the €20 I saved.

Whatever you do - do not buy the cheapie Chinese tyres - mate of mine did - lasted 2 weeks with them. Scary stuff - in a nutshell, he had to triple his braking distance - in the dry!!!

i just don't want to spend €180 a tyre for Continentals just for the name, if another brand is more expensive and lasts longer i will consider it, or cheaper with the same life span even better, i will check out this website but tbh i will end up buying a brand tyre, not a snob thing just piece of mind, so have you 4 of the above tyre on your car.

Vredestein are a well respected tyre brand, they sit above budget brands but just below premium brands. The Ultrac Sessantas perform well in tests and some of the guys on BMW forums are running them on M3s which is a good endorsement imo. I have 4 of them on my car since February and have no complaints.

Until tonight I never heard of them, i must price them and make a decision

I had them on my last car, I absolutely loved them.
Seemed very assured and felt so safe in the wet, and let's face it, in this country, wet grip should be a major factor in choosing a tyre.

Does anyone know any tyre fitter in the east Cork area that will fit Camskill's stuff? Also, do you know how much they charge also, to fit the new tyre, balance it, and valve, i will dispose of it with a local farmer. I need two tyres fitted, would they charge extra for the tyres to be rotated (front on the back, new ones up front) on the same day.
You can PM me the name, please.

Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 A versus Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2

Which would you buy, Bridgestones are €139 and Goodyears are €152, goodyear is slightly better in the review it got on eiretyres, tyretest.com, are they worth the extra €10+ for the sake of slightly/marginally better dry grip ,wet grip, braking in dry & wet, wear etc.

Does anyone have experience of these tyre manufacturers

Another vote for vredestein ultrac sessantas here. Had them on my Audi and loved them. I have experience of pilot sport II tyres as fitted by audi from factory on this car also and IMO the sessanta is just as good and to me, even better in the wet.
Mine were 245 40 18. very good value though.

The above prices seem v cheap for bridgestone and goodyear in that size

yeah goodyear from camskill and bridgestone from eiretyres, both include P&P just to find and pay someone to fit them also, What did the Vredestein cost and where did you get yours. Cheers

Another vote for Fast Fit Togher here!
They have worked out pretty much the same price as Camskill for me in the past.

I did go a bit cheaper the last time and got Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's

Have to say they are preforming really well and I was surprised at the grip levels. Better than Pilot Sport 2 IMO

225/40/18's were 125 a corner - may have gone up since....

Edit: The Hankook have a guarantee with them too, free puncture repairs or replacements if anything happens.

I suspect you will pay around €15 per tyre for fitting and balancing, some places might do two tyres for €25.

Had these on the leon myself. Went from sport contact 3s to them. I found them very good value and great grip in the wet

The place immediately behind Rockgrove motors, Little Island/Glounthaune (can't remember the name, sorry...) have always been very accommodating for me as regards fitting, removing, balancing etc. over the last few years and I usually buy my tyres online.
