I use my iphone with sports-tracker and strava, i bought the sports tracker mount for the bike. I have been out in storms almost and the iphone stays dry. Been using it for over 2yrs and still prefect! Highly recommend it.

The problem with using your phone for things like this is that it sucks the battery, especially the GPS apps.

Ye u can buy the external power top up supplies for little or nothing.
I was out on Tuesday in the rain and with the phone under the rain jacket in my back pocket it was a pain in the arse

At the moment I use my smartphone, the best I've got out of it was 140km before the battery died. Looking to get the Garmin 500 or similar as better battery life. btw I use Strava on my phone.

I use mapmyride on my iPhone, and I reckon if I fully charged it and used it solely for tracking my ride (and no web browsing whilst stopped) I could get about 140km out of it.

The issue here being of course that what do you do in an emergency if your phone battery has been eaten by tracking!

I plan on buying one of the garmins as soon as I have the money for one.

thats what i carry in my bag on a long trip, got one on offer for €30 about 7months ago.
when you stop or take a break, i take the iphone out of my sports-tracker mount and pop it into that for awhile.
