Anyone here that is well up on the upcoming US election. Would be very grateful if there was. I am looking for examples of different sources on the election such as books, websites, journals. I am looking for sources that have different views so they can be debated and different arguments can be made. Anyone out there that could help.

This is my source for politics. Varied enough.

Then I suppose you have politifact, and thedailyshow.com

All in all though this place is pretty quiet compared to previous years, it's as if nobody is really that interested in this election and frankly, neither am I. Let the debates get started and lets have at it.

The biggest problem for me is all the lies and deception going on in the media. Obama makes a speech about how Small Business still require/benefit from social projects like roads, the internet etc. and somehow the television only reports on the edited-out and highlighted part of half a statement to make it sound like Obama was telling business they didn't build their businesses (and not the roads and bridges and internet - the thing he was actually referring to).

And thats just the most recent example. I could probably stretch back and find more and more of this type of crap. There is no honesty in the media anymore and all of this PAC nonsense has completely turned me off television - I DVR Deadliest Catch. Every once in a while I'll watch the dailyshow when it actually airs or one of those comedy shows that comes on around the same time block but that's pretty much it.

I'll probably listen to conservative radio again coming back into fall semester but again, you have a lot of hyperbolic insincere crap that goes on there too. For ****s sake NBC can't even get it's **** together to cover the Olympics correctly anymore. I've basically given up on the media.

    Check out Rachel Maddow.

Bill Maher, Colbert and Stewart are all very entertaining. Maher is the best IMHO as he has a panel on the show.

    Here's a very interesting video regarding Romney's severe 'flip-flopping':

    I'd second Bill Maher.

Bill Maher is a twat, sorry but he is a twat in the same way as Hannity or Glenn Beck is a twat. They do their sides no good at all.

Rachel Maddow. Bill Maher, Colbert, Jon Stewart, Politifact,??? At least have the decency to tell the OPoster all these sources favor one side of the political isle.

Overheal… "edited-out and highlighted part of half a statement?" The best political ad against President Obama I’ve seen so far on the matter includes little more than Obama’s own words, and in "context."

well good for that ad. how dare the potus say that you got help somewhere along the way. I dont exactly hear the GOP saying "you don't need the government. go live in a cave. you can do it all by yourself"

Jesus wept, everything Obama says in that ad is 100% correct. How can it be used to attack him?

Because if you take a chunk of uneducated poor white people, and bombard them 24/7 with how mexicans and a black president are taking their jobs, combine them with your average everyday racists, throw in a dollop of the sadly, severely religious, and layer the whole thing with a small group of incredibly powerful and wealthy elite who will do anything to stay on top and are happy to string the rest of the above along, you end up with the base of the GOP or approximately 40% of the American electorate.

I wonder if there is any member of the GOP who is... Principled, honest, fair-minded, secular, well educated and not-a-racist? If there are they still have to get past the Fox News - fair and balanced - Brainwashing System (tm). And the rest would probably label them a RINO and run them out of town before you can say... 'Where's Obama's REAL birth certificate?'

Maher is a typical American rich liberal who rides in limos and jokes about people who believe in capitalism while he lines his pockets-a total hypocrite.

You are right about the uneducated white people but you forgot to add the illegal aliens and the rest of the government dependent takers who this president is appealing for their vote for more dependenancy which you should know about. How's that working out?

For mostly unbiased sources look to Politico (http://www.politico.com/) and Real Clear Politics (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/).

The latter is particularly good as it lists all polls showing the shape of the presidential race, for example Obama v Romney: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html It also lists Obama v Romney numbers in the various states (pay particular attention to the swing states) - see their 'latest polls' section.

Gallup and Rasmussen are the most regular pollsters, updating their polls every day or two (therefore, more responsive to fluctuations in support) so I'd give most weight to those two. Other polls such as Pew tend to include too many Democrats and consequently overstate Obama's support.

The Drudge Report (http://drudgereport.com/) is also an excellent source of news in the US, especially for politics but it does have a strong bias towards Republicans/Conservative views, frequently linking to negative stories about Obama and Democrats. Drudge allegedly has strong connections to the Romney campaign.

To balance Drudge with a left/Obama-Democrat supporting website, look to the politics section of the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/election-2012-blog).

Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are all biased in favour of Obama and Democrats (Bill Maher has actually donated $1 million to a political action group supporting Obama).

Not saying Stewart isn't opinionated, but I will point out that 90% of what he does is point out glaring failures in media, journalism and political consistency. Really hard to fault that. Blasted AC360 for Treyvon Martin coverage, regularly bashes fox news because - well they just make it so damn easy ("The reason our [news show] is so great is because a lot of it we just make up!" (he also blasts Harry Reid - so theres that too))
