You're not mad. They're stunning cars. Don't know anything about that specific car - and can't see all details on my phone - but don't let anything put you off but the condition & value of the particular car you're looking at (if that makes sense).

Thats a bit pricey. Would be looking at least a grand off that. Its one of the best diesel engines out there but need looking after. They are prone to a swirl valve issue which can be very costly to fix...plenty of info online about it

An Alfa with cloth seats, eh no thanks.
Don't be put off buying an Alfa though just make sure you get it fullychecked out before purchase and again seriously cloth seats on an Alfa yuk!!

This. Get leather and check out Alfa Owner Fourm for more info

Lads, the seats are only a detail. You buy an Alfa on condition and service history.

Tourismo is the base spec, I'd try to find a lusso.
There is no chance you will see 50+ mpg;)
As the others say it seems very expensive.
Great car though, I love mine.

Yeah, but a detail you have to live with. Leather and Service History are not mutually exclusive

Seems expensive imo considering it is 6 years old.

    €5.5k max for it.

would love one with leather but all seem to be out of my price range except petrol versions. anyone know where i might get a diesel one with leather for around this price...without mega mileage

VRT costs.... and not to be picky or anything but it's a wine coloured leather interior. The nicest are either beige or tan.

I have been keeping an eye out for a 159 for quite a while now. That is not expensive for the 1.9 diesel. Its one of the cheapest I have seen. But the seats would put me off, definitely would not buy one with cloth seats. Its such a stylish car and the leather seats really add a lot to it.
One went up on donedeal last week and was gone the same day, advertised at around €7500.

wish list.... leather, red or black bodywork, 1.9 diesel, lowish miles for under 7500e.... i must be dreaming

I got that many times, frustrating drives though lol, usually when stuck behind a truck on a winding road (last place I worked was in the wilderness).

Truly a beautiful car to drive.

You could always keep an eye out for a second hand set of leather seats/door cards on the likes of pistonheads, etc. Either that or save up and get the existing seats redone in leather. I would not let something like missing leather seats rule out a good tidy car at the right price.

The red leather on that Alfa is seriously gorgeous.

I know it sounds weird and thats what I thought myself too until I saw one in real life. I think tan/beige is the least desirable option here.

you'll find a decent one in the UK
I personally would wait if you can get a Lusso with a good history but you might end up paying
I was in the opposite situation a few yrs ago when I was selling my 156. It was fully serviced with Alfa dealers or TI Autos all its life and had leather and when I put it up for sale it was busy and I had plenty interested parties so I didnt have to drop the asking price

Had an Alfa once from new. Loved the rasp of the exhaust and the driving experience. However, it left me down so many times, it broke my heart : Faulty battery, leaking oil, dealer fixed leak but leaked again and engine seized, engine rebuilt under warranty, coolant pipe burst, corroded side mirrors in its 2nd year......the list goes on. Still love the look of them, but cannot bring myself to buying another one.

In my experience, if you want to enjoy Alfa ownership then you have to stay away from the dealer network.

Except when it's covered under warranty, whereby the dealer is obliged to cover the costs.

God no. Leather seats is half the reason you'd buy an Alfa anyway, so it's not 'only a detail' - and, it is where you spend ALL of your time, driving it.

It's the same with 5-series, E-Class et al, as well : cloth seats can only be topped in 'yuck' by having a manual gearbox, as well.

How times have changed. It used to be about sweet, revvy twinsparks and howling V6s, and now it's about diesel and leather. Well, not for me it isn't.

I'm with you on the 5 series and the E class, but they're a different kind of car altogether.

In fairness Alfa's have some of the best leather seats out there, having one w/o them is a sin, having a diesel one w/o them is imo lunacy

was talking to my mechanic today ... he said he'd be seeing a lot more of me if i bought an alfa !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,032 ✭✭✭Jimbob 83

Alfa's are fine if properly serviced, 99% of problems with secondhand Alfa's is from the previous owner not servicing properly and you suffering for it.

Usual generic left field response i imagine from someone who doesnt want to touch them.

Sounds like neither one knows the first thing about the car, why bother posting?
