Slight damage to the rear of my car

    Hi,

I was parked in Tesco today, I went inside and when I'd returned a person parked near to me had pulled away damaging the back of my car. They cracked the plastic cover of the lights, and rear bumper, on the left hand side (as you look at it). The lights still work, and light with the correct colours and the rear bumper is notably cracked, though not very badly damaged. Am I cool for my driving test?

    Cheers,
    Caoimhin

Any marks/dints are ok. Just make sure all indicator lights/covers are clean and working. Can you post a pic of your car? That way we can make an honest opinon.

    Hiya Op,

A dent is ok but if it were any more serious than that then it may need to be fixed. The lights would need to be fixed for the test I'd say. Give off wrong impression and RSA may not allow the test to commence if car is not seen as roadworthy especially if lights aren't as they should be, they would not carry out the test if a light wasn't in its place.

If a light isn't working they wouldn't conduct the test. Its worth getting the lights sorted out for the sake of the test anyway as you are likely to be asked to do a technical check on the lights as part of the driving test.

I sat mine recently but failed it. On the test, they check indicators, brake lights, tail lights and headlights. May not always ask to demonstrate fog lights, parking/side lights and hazard lights.

I have since had a bump to my light and bumper at the side with serious damage done to it and has a noticeable dent. I have to get mine fixed before I resit the test doubt I could do the test without getting it fixed. My light have to be fixed too as there is crack on the light and its about to lift.

So definitely get it fixed if you can on time before the test. If its soon enough get it sorted asap. If there is any hint of a scrape on it or severe damage, rust can start on it causing more issues. So its best to get that fixed and repainted if you can. Best to get it sorted asap before your test.

You might get insurance off the incident when it wasn't your fault and the dent caused by another driver so it be worth checking it out. Definitely get it sorted before your test though.

    Best of luck
