My Girlfriend has noticed water getting into the footwell of her 99 1.4 golf.
Only seems to be on the drivers side of the car, front and back. Haven't taken a look at it yet. Anyone know what it might be?

    Cheers :)

The barrier device between the metal of the door and the back of the door card. The sealant may have degraded and has come apart, or there was work done previously, like on the window regulator and the barrier hasn't been replaced properly.

    Does it have a sunroof?

    Does it have a sunroof?

Yeah but thats not leaking. Centre console isn't getting wet, just the footwell.

Excellent stuff. Would you know how I could get to this pipe that runs from the sunroof?

The ones for the front of the sunroof are inside the door jam of the front doors,a little rubber pipe protruding from the body of the car,the ones for the rear are up behind the back bumper.

Open up the sun roof and you will see the 4 drain holes, pour a little water into them and see if it makes it out the other end.

Even if you unblock them you are probably going to have to put some kind of de humidifier in the car to collect all the moisture thats built up,you can get cheap silica gel based ones in Atlantic etc that work a treat.

    Can any1 help me also?

The drivers floor of my MK4 golf 3dr is soaking. I know where the water is comming in but cant get past all the trim and bolts etc. The car has a sunroof and that is not the problem.

The car has been kept in my garage bone dry etc for the last week and when water is poured over the right side of the windscreen down the wiper on the drivers side, just like it was raining or a car wash, the water flows down between some joints obviously and flows in behind the accelerator peddle down on to the floor under the carpet.

The windscreen was replaced last year, but it was doing it before that so its fully sealed. I took off the wipers from the motor and removed the black casing panel and sealed the very right most corner of the gully on the drivers side, but there is actually more water coming in now?? I really want to get it sorted as the carpet is starting to smell. Ive dried it off with a hair dryer but next bit of rain it will be back to soaking again.

Just wanted to see if anyone had this problem before i leave it into the VW garage. At least i know where it water is entering from the outside but i dont have all the tools to be removing panels and trim etc and i only end up breaking something.

    Thanks!
