Ankle Ligament Recovery

    Hi all,

I badly damaged ligaments in my ankle during a hurling match last weekend. It wasn't a belt, but my self and their full-forward went up for a high ball and the 2 of us came down on my ankle which was positioned the wrong way.

X-ray showed a minor fracture, but I'm most worried about ligaments as the "specialist" couldn't tell me the extent of the damage even a week later, as the it was still swollen, he just said come back to me in 4 weeks (which by that stage I would have had the cast on for 5 weeks).

However I'm hearing horror stories of ankle ligament recovery stories of taking from 8 months to recover to never fully recover.

I'm setting a target for myself to be back hurling in 10 weeks time (with some good physio recovery help), but obviously that depends on the next specialist visit in 4 weeks.

Anyone else out there with experience of this sort of thing? in particular ankle ligament recovery times.

I've torn ligaments in both my ankles and had surgery on my right a good 8/9 years ago at this stage.
I had years of problems with my ankles due to high arches and still have the occasional problem, but only on a rare occasion.
I took a year out of football after Minor to recover from what was an injury plagued 3/4 years, before joining the Senior panel but it would reckon it took me probably 10-12 weeks after my surgery before i would have been good to go before coming back.
I still have a tendency to go over on them during the Janauary/February sessions on bad pitches,so i tend to give the fieldwork a miss until the pitches get a bit harder.
    Do you wear blades???
I wore blades back in 2007/2008 and they seemed to make things worse and since i've scrapped them and went back to studs/mouldies, thinks have improved about 1000%.
