    Hi,

I'm working for a short period over the summer, my first full-time job in Ireland. I was delayed in submitting the 12A form for a tax credit certificate, and only did it the other day. How long will it take for my tax credit certificate to be issued to my employer? I'm only working for three months, so if it doesn't arrive before next payday (end of next month), and I finish work, do I have to wait until the year end to claim back emergency tax?

It really depends on how busy the PAYE area of your local office is right now. Some periods of the year, you can be waiting up to 12 weeks for anything to be looked at. This time of year it should be a lot less.
Once your 12A is processed, the certs issue within 24 hours. Your paper copy takes 5 working days to get to you. Your employers copy can be sent online or by paper.

If for some reason your tax is not sorted before you leave, you can look to claim it back 8 weeks after you leave by using your p45 and a completed form p50.

If emergency tax was deducted from you, you may apply immediately for a refund on becoming unemployed.

    Even better.
