i need advice quick, iv recently just changed insurance policys from axa to rsa (through aa) as i got a far cheaper better deal. i used i just automatically let the axa policy carry into the following year with axa and iv never noticed this before, heres the problem. i need to send in a copy of my no claims discount, i told the iv been insured since 2005 and never claimed, thats 7 years no claims, no problem. so i rang up axa and they said a copy came with the renewal, ok fine, went looking for it and had a quick look, it said i had 5 years no claims discount, didnt seem to make sence. iv been driving on my own policy since july 2005 without ever claiming, thats 7 years no claims, so whats happened to the 2 missing years and why am i only realising this now, when i started driving i was insured with quinn direct, cheapest at the time. that was from july 2005 - july 2008, thats 3 years no claims, on the axa renewal details its reads, insured from july 2008 -july 2012, thats 4 years with axa, with 5 years no claims, it looks like they only ever credited me with 1 years no claims from quinn direct instead of the 3 i earned

where do i stand now? how do i go about getting my missing 2 years?

can i claim back money from axa (probably unlikely)

    all helps welcome

    regards stephen

You'll have to get Liberty/Quinn to certify their years cover. Not an issue for Axa.

cheers ninty, i think iv all the old documents put away in a shoe box under the bed, if i can dig that out and submit it with the axa cert, should this be ok? do i need to write a note with it explaining what has happened?

Most insurance company's only offer a NCB discount upto 5 years or 50% claims free driving. You need to verify with the insurance company issueing the NCB.

I had the nuisance recently of having to get 3 different companies to certify no claims. Old ones won't do, they'll have to be recent.

And most of them charge an admin fee now for reissuing them.

send in the most recent one from axa, it should not make any difference to your quote.

some only give a max of 5 years ncb even if you have more. had this problem myself before

Probably not worth the hassle. We had the same problem and had to accept 7 years instead of 9. The following year I got a quote for 9+ years and they didn't ask for proof.

5 years claim free driving is probably the maximum discount you will receive from most insurers in Ireland. After that, it doesn't matter if you have 10, 20 or 30 years, you'll still get the same premium. It is highly unlikely that you lost out in previous years
