Have a 07 Opel Vectra 1.6, since last week I have had a problem starting the car.

Went out on way to work last monday morning and car wouldnt start, seemed to be trying to start. I assumed it was battery as it was the original one that came with the car. So changed the battery on saturday and all seemed fine, until i came to start car on sat evening, it wouldnt start again. I did manage to get it started after somebody told me to disconnect the battery and then reconnect. When I was connecting the negaitve terminal the lights came on.

Wondering it this something to do with the starter motor / alternator or what?

Can anybody give me some advice?

Sounds to me more like bad connections at the battery terminals, make sure the + and - cables are good, clean and tight and free of any crap or corrosion.

Both the battery points and the cables are corrosion free and are tight, so i don't think the problems comes from there, however I will check them and the cables when i get home and see if i missed anything.

Is the car turning over quickly but not starting?

or slowly like the battery is nearly dead?

Could be a cim unit that need to be replaced.

Its turning over quickly, but not starting.

That would rule out a battery terminal issue.

Just hoping that its not an expensive job.

Take a look at this tread. Sounds like the same problem.

I would say the problem is with the starter.
