could be the speed sensor on top of the gearbox, it's cheap to replace

Just wait until your sister drives the car and then claim she broke it. Get her boyfriend to pay for it.

If it is the sensor it will only take a few mins to change it

well she has no money, so it will be me forking out the cost of repair

Well if it's just the sensor the repair should be cheap enough.

found it! it was a fuse! 20 amp, so taken the radio one out and replaced it with that ( dont worry radio doesnt need a code ) will the local petrol garages sell a 20amp fuse to fit?

No need to buy a new fuse, wrap tinfoil around the broken one. Be grand. ;)

My first car was a 00 corsa 1.2, same car

That fuse blew twice when people used the cigarette lighter.
