Hi all. This morning my dog chewed through the power cord for my laptop. It was on the side of the adapter which plugs into the walk and thankfully it wasn't plugged in at the time! What I was wondering is can I replace just that part and does it need to be bought from the manufacturer? Will any cord do? I'm using a Toshiba but have an old hp laptop and cable here.

I had the same problem and I went in to Pc world and other places to buy a new cable for my laptop their charging something like 80 euros for a new cable .

If its the cord from the Wall Socket to the power adaptor then its an easy job to get a replacement PC World will rip you off for one if you need one in a hurry. If you have one that fits from another laptop then that will be fine.

Two main common types 2pin (figure of eight) and 3pin (DIN kettle plug) with a couple of minor variations 3pin inline (Some Dell laptops) 3pin (clover leaf). Just take the old one with you when you go shopping.

If the AC cable fits into the power supply, of course you can use it. If the fuses in the plug are different, use the one from the Toshiba cable.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The cable fits fine and I've changed the fuse as suggested. It's was a 5a fuse in the new cable which I changed to the 13a one in the old cable.
All seems to be good so far. Just need to keep the dog away from it!
