I have a Sony Freeview HD PVR which gives me both Freeview and Saorview channels including obviously RTE2HD. What is best setting for HDMI - 576i; 576p; 720i; 1080i or 1080p? I'm watching it on a Sony Bravia 20inch set.

1080i or possibly 1080p. It depends on if the PVR or the TV does de-interlacing of HD best, or if the TV has true native 1080i (best for HD transmission).

ALL Saorview HD is transmitted 1080i. But all SD channels are 576i.

There may be an "auto" setting that simply outputs whatever it actually is and lets the TV do it.

20" is terribly small for 16:9 SD, never mind HD. it's almost like a 16" 4:3 set! So it might not make much difference whatever setting you use.

Is the Sony an HD set with HDMI, or just a SCART model. "Sony Bravia" is just a brand, not a model. Tells us nothing about the TV.

Via SCART it's 576i no matter what you set the PVR for HDMI.

Sony TV is HD ready with HDMI socket. Many thanks for the info.
