Anyone any experience of Waterford Aero Club, Im thinking of doing the hours for the PPL but only have weekends free. As I would be commuting from Dublin I would need to block book hours.
Their rates seem reasonable and they also have the PA-28 that I could get a few hours on doing the bulk in the Technam p2002.
    Any experiance with the Technams?
Thanks for any replys and information.

They are probably the best flying club in Ireland at the moment.
You will get a good flying education there plus I think they are very cheap compared to the other clubs in Ireland.
    The instructors are top class

I am not a member but many of my freinds are.

If you are willing to travel to Waterford to do your PPL. Why not consider heading north and training at the Ulster Flying Club in Newtownards? It is closer from Dublin than Waterford and they have first class facilities and aircraft.
Very modern fleet of 172s and Technams.

Another major plus is that it is significantly cheaper.

How is the Tecnam's cheaper in UFC?

They charge £159 pounds in the Tecnam, which would be roughly 200+ euro.

WAC charge roughly €150 per hour for the Tecnam with an instructor, and roughly €170 per hour in the PA28 also.

Plus with membership fees, up in Ulster Flying Club you will pay close to 300euro (~£230) for membership, whereas in Waterford you will pay €185, or €175 if paid in January.

Also the journey time from Dublin to Waterford takes roughly around the same time as Dublin to Newtownards.

As what Jesus Nut mentioned. The instructors are top class, you get to fly relatively cheap aircraft, atmosphere of the club is also excellent, and the ATC around Waterford great also.

There isn't anything bad you could say about Waterford Aeroclub, great instructors who are always willing to help not to mention the other members. There has always being a great atmosphere out there. Plus you get the experience of flying from a commercial aerodrome

The figure of £159 is per training hour on the Cessna 172sps. The Technams are charged around £120 an hour.(I think they have an off peak rate too)
UFC also rent the Technams to club members for £ 95 per tachometer hour!

Other points to note that they IAA charge €430 for a ppl skills test. The CAA charge £90!

    Just my two cents worth...

That's the figure for hours after you have your PPL..

    45 hours Tecnam instruction £6750.00 (£150 x 45)

Yeah sure, you will probably have to book a week or two in advance though.

Just out of interest is the tecnam classed as needing a PPL or can it be flown with a microlight licence?

Bummer. Down here the NZ CAA class them as flyable with a microlight licence :)
