Hey all, looking for a bit of advice. I have been called for a Preliminary interview for a job with a vec. Now this is my first interview as I only completed my PDE in June. Just wondering, is this essentially going to be like an interview anyway? I guess its to see if they get a vibe from someone or not.

Has anyone had any experience with something similiar? Should I just prepare typical interview questions? If anyone could enlighten me I would greatly appreciate it
    Thanks in advance smile.gif

I had an interview with a vec last wednesday. I have just finished the PDE in June so didnt know what to expect.

There was four interviewers- One guy was like the chairperson and introduced the questions and then passed the interviewing to the other three. The second guy asked about subject knowledge etc. He went through the key skills- Communication, information processing etc on NCCA website and how can you link them to your subjects. Next was a woman who asked about my own education, professional development and extra-curricular activities. The final guy was the principal of the school in question. He asked two scenario type questions about dealing with discipline and talking to parents. He asked my knowledge on vec in general. It lasted about 25minutes long but went quick.

I don't think I get it. I was very nervous. It was great experience. Hopefully I can build some confident from it.

It was a maternity leave if that does be any different?

I've never heard of a preliminary interview with the VEC just been called for interviews. I'd say treat it as a normal interview , dress to kill and prepare those 4 areas as mentioned by poster above . I had the exact same four areas in my interviews.

Its possible it's a situation like mine last year. I had an interview with just the principal and vice principal of a VEC in Kildare. That got me the job until I sat a full interview panel at the end of October. The original interview was still a very tough interview and took 45 minutes but was still not an official interview in the VEC sense

    Hi all,

Sorry to drag up an old topic but I figured I better ask here first before starting a new thread!
I have been called for a preliminary interview next week with a VEC and I am just wondering if anyone has any recent info on doing one of these? I guess as was mentioned earlier I should be fully prepared for an interview. But just if anyone has any other info or help I would greatly appreciate it!!

    Many thanks folks! :-)
