Compact Speaker advice for new Sonos Zone

    Hi There

I've had a look at your site today but I don't have enough HiFi knowledge to know what I need. Maybe you could help me?

I've had a Sonos system for 6 years now and am extremely happy with it. We started with two zones and now have 3. However, I recently purchased a Yamaha ZP-2200 Soundbar for a new TV and attached our livingroom Sonos Connect (non-amplified) to the soundbar.

The problem with this config is that all our devices are using the ARC Return channel to connect with the TV, so under this config we can't listen to music on the soundbar while simultaneously watching a football match with the sound off.

So I've decided to disconnect the Sonos from the soundbar (don't love the sound quality for music anyway.) Can you give me some advice on what speakers I should go with?

I don't want to go with pedestal speakers. I'm hoping for something like a set of bookshelf speakers and I'd like to put them on a 4ft high bookshelf above the TV.

I'm confused as to whether I need to get an Amp, subwoofers, speakers, etc. for my Sonos Connect.

Or whether I should use my spare Sonos Connect: AMP and buy passive speakers. I have perfect pitch so I would like good sound quality but am not knowledgeable about HiFi equipment.

I'd really like something tidy but don't want to pay more than about €400-450. And the room is 20ft x 12ft, if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a million!

    Hi there.

There are 2 options here, depending on what you need the sonos units for :

    (1) Go with the Sonos connect and buy an amplifier and speakers.

    (2) Use the Sonos connect amp and buy a pair of passive speakers.

I personally would go for the second option and go for the Monitor Audio RX1's speakers.

If you like your music, then these will be music to your ears ! :D

These are currently £399.95 in the black oak, walnut and Natural Oak finishes. I can do a pair of these including shipping for 485 Euro including shipping.

These are a seriously good pair of speakers and are both made well and sound excellent.

Going with the other option will not allow for as good a pair of speakers as you will have to spend on the amplifier.

I hope this helps but let me know what you think.
