I may need some neurosurgery done, I had to cancel my vhi as cannot afford it anymore. Will my medical card cover the surgery?

Alot depends on what route you take to the neurosurgery. If your GP has reffered you to a neurosurgeon on the public health system, and you are processed through the public health system and treated in the public health system, then your medical card will cover all that.
If, however, you choose to take the private route ie either find a neurosurgeon yourself and ask your GP to write you a letter of referral, or ask your GP to recommend a neurosurgeon and see him/her privately, you will have to pay. If you decide to do this, discuss with the neurosurgeon what you might expect to be billed for and how much before you agree to anything.
