A guy from sky called to the door telling me the analog signal will be going off, I said to him i thought it was people with aerials that would lose it. But he assured me that it was been switched off.

My father payed a once off payment around 25 years ago for the tv for life, the signal comes in through the pipe (coaxial) from UPC but he does on have an account with them.

So i wonder are all the sky reps telling porkies.

    From UPC site
"ASO will have absolutely no impact to any customers receiving their TV service from UPC. UPC operates a standalone network with our own separate signal"

Not directly connected with your question, but I must say that sounds a little odd. UPC don't do "one off payments for life" deals as far as I know.

    It was 25 years ago!

My sister in Palmerstown has the same sort of deal which she inherited from the house's previous owners.

I believe it was a local cable system which RTE Relays/Cablelink took over.
People had paid a one off fee for the service when it was originally just a system for the estate she is in, and they kept their 'free' service once RTE Relays/Cablelink took over.

If she wants an extra TV point or to go digital, then she would revert to normal UPC rates.

My old man bought a driving license years ago. Never done a test. Now that's odd;)

Sky sellers in sharp practice shocker.

Its not the first time it has happened and probably not the last until the regulator steps in. It says a lot about BSky B that they allow scare tactics and doorstep mugging in order to sell more of its product. It says even more about the regulator that BSky B havent been hauled in over it. Its been going on too long. It hasnt been helpful to the consumer nor the ASO/DSO campaign. A deliberate attempt at undermining it in my opinion. RTE will tell you that Saorview isnt a competing platform to pay TV. Sky do not see it that way.

You only have to view the latest Sky's adverts airing (with the Ed Byrne voice over) which has pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable language for selling a commercial TV product on the back of describing Saorview/ASO/DSO campaign as complex. Putting it up to the regulator.....

yea this was in palmerstown , it was before cablelink, because i think cablelink brought them to court and cablelink lost and its been like that ever since.
