See article here. Not on their website yet - usually updated Thursday pm

    http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/education/latest-news/aldi-sparks-price-war-with-5-offer-for-school-uniforms-3180629.html?start=2

" The retailer is to offer skirts and trousers for €2 each, a two-pack of polo shirts for €1.25 and sweatshirts for €1.75.

The items are aimed at children aged four to 11 years old, and will be on sale from next Thursday in grey, black, red, navy, white and blue."

I saw another article online about this earlier: http://dublin.studenty.me/2012/07/26/aldi-offers-low-cost-school-uniforms/

I think it's a great idea, good on Aldi!

No use in the bulk of schools, as parents are rode silly year on year when forced to purchase the "school approved crest" jumpers, coats, track suits all at extortionate prices from "approved" suppliers. It is, and has been, a joke for quite some time.

Yeh I see this from the article wexford 2012 provided -

"Children’s charity Barnardos, however, has said that the Aldi uniform will not be accepted by up to 80% of Irish primary schools."

It's a load of toss, I know I'd be buying it and to hell with the school, we are in a recession and if others can bend the rules during this time then so should schools in relation to those lower income families. Ridiculous.

Its crazy here, parents have to fork out a fortune for uniforms just cos there's a crest on it.A scam by schools along with their making 'voluntary contributions' compulsary.Good on Aldi & Tesco for making uniforms affordable.

Agreed ... I wonder would a school honestly refuse to educate a child because they didn't have the correct* jumper

    * by correct I mean overpriced, monopolised, specifically crested jumper

    chris1970,

Try M&S - they have pink polo shirts from age 7, which might fit the 5 year old.

I would be very surprised. I sent my kids in last year without the crests and not a word was said. Though during last summer the school were supposed to order crests, giving parents an option, but they didn't bother. Shame Aldi aren't doing the jumpers in bottle green.

when I was in school we were pulled out of class and our parents were rang and told to come collect us if we didn't have the crested uniform on. We even had to have a crested tracksuit! Stupid, ridiculous rule which I hope has changed over the last few years.

if the schools want personalised crests then they should sell sew on patches for a couple of quid.

I read the Article yesterday, about the Uniforms being not accepted by up to 80% of Primary schools... That's a load of..

It might be worth inquiring at this company if they'd sell packs of x amount. I'd imagine they'd sell quite well.

It'd probably be worth it for Aldi, to buy a load of them. (obviously for the nearer schools to each Aldi)

What about a velcro school crest that could be transferred to any jumper or top, year to year? Or they could use iron-on Wundaweb backing?

I seen these school uniforms in the Aldi leaflet, they look great, there's added Teflon on the skirts and trousers as well.

Farcical scenes at Aldi this morning, the store in Enniscorthy got none as the delivery ended up in Ennis according to staff.
Strict quotas in other stores as stock was so limited, got a few bits alright so happy enough considering.I bet there was a lot of unhappy parents who missed out.

Does anybody know how much uniforms are in Tesco?

Would there be any point going down around 5ish or were shelves cleared??
Also, did they have sizes for 11 or 12 year olds

They didn't even get a chance to put the stock on the shelves,it was queue up and they gave each customer a limited amount of stuff so no person got greedy & took everything.I doubt there's anything left anywhere.

Check your local stores folks,Aldi are selling off any remaining uniforms at reduced prices, got packs of shirts today for €1.49,reduced from €3.49.

Handy to stock up on as we know how tough kids are on clothes & how fast they grow out of them.
