Idly looking at a newer car to replace the Jaaag with,

Thinking 08 onwards Accord or Mazda6

There are a good few well specced 6 diesels in the UK for handy money, now I know the old model 6 has a bit of a rep, just wondering if this engine was carried over to the new model and if the DPF problem exists on the 2.0

"Get the 2.2" I hear you say, but the 2.2 models seem to be out of my tentative budget.

Never mind that diesel cack - fuel of the devil and all that.

Rumour has it there's a minty Mazda 6 MPS knocking around for reasonable money. ;)

Afaik they are a different engine. If it was me I would go for a Accord GT.

There's a few EX model Accords in budget with nav and leather, my missus thinks its a bit too old-manish though, she may be right, A 6 in bright blue would look much nicer.

I've just picked up an 08 Accord iDTEC but was half looking at the 6 as well. Much cheaper than the Accord but too much 'noise' in relation to issues knocking around about them for me. Nice looking on the outside but the interior was disappointing. Very happy with the Accord although seems to be a bit heavier on diesel than the CDTi that I traded.

She thinks an Accord is old-manish?

I wouldn't imagine you get too much action in the Jaaaaaaag then! :pac:

What sort of budget do you have Colm?

    A nice 2009 2.2 litre (163bhp) here asking £8k:

I'm looking at the same cars at the moment, possibly a 3 series or A4 at a push.

You'd be doing well to land an Accord DTEC for less than €12k IMO

Would a 159 interest you Colm? A nice car and a bit different. Should get one for €9k ish anyway.

The new 6 still has the "x" on the dipstck anyway so I wouldn't be certain it's a different design. Don't think it's as big an issue as people make out. Checking the oil every few weeks should take care of it. There's a diesel 6 in our house for 5 years (3 years old model and 2 years new) and they've never missed a beat.

    Colm - we've had a few new model Mazda6's.....

08 - made it to 58k with no issues before it came back
08 - made it to 45k with no issues before it was written off
09 - history is littered with breakdowns and DPF regens. Came back at 176k and was rough, rough, rough
09 - made it to 147k with no issues
09 - new engine circa 60k due to oil starvation. Multiple regens and issues since - think it's had part of the new engine replaced. Spent months in the garage having all this fixed.

Not a massive sample size, but 40% failure rate would be a bit chancy for me.
