So whats the situation with coverage?
Does anyone know which channels are covering all the swimming events if any at all?

I would presume the beeb and rte will be showing most, if not all of the swimming.
I cannot bloody wait. Starts at 10am Saturday morning with the 400im heats. Phelps in heat 4. And it's non stop from then on!
Phelps, Lochte, missy Franklyn are the 3 stand outs for me. But a special mention for sun yang, who's 1500m world record in the world championships last year was one of the most impressive displays of disciplined splits swimming I've ever seen. And he's got the perfect stroke action imo. If you've never seen him swim, make it your business next week!

I saw that swim last year and it was perfect. First 14 x 100m split all inside a second and he blew the last 100m for the record. A beauty to watch!

I was delighted and surprised to see Yang line up in 400m yesterday. Which he blitzed in an Olympic record. Think he was the fastest this morning in the 200m heats too. He's a phenom.
As for the 16 year old chinese girl winning the 400im last nite in a new world record, that was just ridiculous! Her last 50 was quicker than Lochte swam in his 400im final and her breast stroke leg was faster than Phelps. Crazy stuff!

Crazy indeed. Good article on it here
    http://www.sportsscientists.com/2012/07/london-day-2-quick-thoughts.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FcJKs+%28The+Science+of+Sport%29&utm_content=FaceBook

'Next, you look at what it "typical" in the 400IM race. For men, the best swimmers typically close in 57 to 59 seconds (check splits from London). This is about 19 to 23% SLOWER than the best men finish in an isolated 100m freestyle.

For women, the TYPICAL (excluding Shiwen) final 100m freestyle takes 61 to 64 seconds. This is 18 to 22% slower than the best females swim 100m freestyle.

So the sport shows that you have a normal pattern, a typical ratio of medley freestyle to best freestyle - they SHOULD BE between 18 and 23% slower at the end of a 400m IM than in a 100m freestyle by itself.

Yet Shiwen is not. She does a 58.68 s final leg, which is only about 10% off the best 100m freestyle swimmers. The conclusion that I would draw from this is that her 100m freestyle leg is disproportionately fast not only by comparison to Lochte, but also to her peers, and to the best 100m freestyle swimmers.

The only way to interpret that is to recognize that the physiology of a fast finish tells us that she must have a significant reserve for that final leg. It says that her first 300m was an extremely conservative effort. The simple question is "Under what circumstances does a female have the capacity to finish a race as fast as a male?"

Thanks for that, good read. There's definitely an "elephant in the room" feeling about the whole thing.

I find the schedule much better this time round than for Beijing.

But I was so impressed with Missy Franklin. She swims her heat, gets to have a warm down in the diving pool and then goes and wins gold!!! wow!!!

Ye Shiwen is having a lot of questions asked of her at the mo.

Ruta Meilutyte who is only 15 just beat Rebecca Soni and Leisel Jones to the gold in the breaststroke, and nothing is being said about that. what a swim. Jones did the same in Sydney so I would say Meilutyte will definitely be one to watch!!!
Looking forward to 2moro morning heats - could be very interesting :D
    Men's 100m Freestyle
    Women's 200m Butterfly
    Men's 200m Breaststroke
    Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay
semifinals in the evening with evening finals in :)
    Women's 200m Freestyle
    Men's 200m Butterfly
    Women's 200m Individual Medley

    bring on day 4

The swimming has been great, very unpredictable. Shows how good Phelps was last time round. will see how Lochte manages this evening with the backcrawl and IM 20min apart. The two lads on RTE are v good. The underwater shots are amazing, high elbows all round but lots of idiosyncrasies too.

tried 200m fly yesterday. not pretty. must be seriously painful 150m into a race.

going to miss it in the evenings. plenty more to look forward though, great array of events on. Fair play to Annalise Murphy in the sailing she's leading her race this morning as well

Another master class from yang last nite, a stunning swim. I don't think I've ever seen a better technique, he makes it look effortless. Took 3 seconds off his world record too, insane.
All in all it was an amazing week in the pool, great tv!
Oh and Michael Phelps, what a hero.
