The basics, for a weekly wash...

    Two buckets
    Good shampoo
    Wash mitt (*2 maybe)
Good drying towl (microfiber is best)
    Alloy wheel cleaner
    Tyre shine

Want to job a great job and then maintain it? All the above including....
    Clay and Quick Detailer
All Purpose Cleaner (if you fancy doing door shuts and jambs, interior etc)
    Tar Remover
    Polish
    Wax / Sealant

Method to get the car in top shape if you've gone the whole hog....
    Wash with Two Bucket Method > Rinse > De-Tar > Rinse > Clay > Wash/Rinse > Dry > Polish > Wax/Sealant >>> Stand back and admire your hard work ;)

Check out Detailing Republic for tips on keeping your car in top condition! Few lads from here on there too! Or there's the UK site, Detailing World

You'll find some decent stuff in Halford's, but to be honest, and people will probably back me up on this....you'd want to keep away from the likes of their own brand stuff and Turtle Wax. Some of the Autoglym stuff is good, Meguiar's products will be the best you get in Halfords, and is good detailing stuff.

Alot of the better stuff, you wont find in Halfords!

Personally, I use different brands - take the best out of each manufacturer - have stuff form Chemical Guys, Autoglym, Meguiar's, Wolf's and a few other less known brands :)

For tar remover, don't bother with turtle wax stuff and surprisingly, meguiars. They're both crap. I find Orchard Auto Care tar remover is excellent. You spray it on, let it work and power hose it and the tar off. No rubbing required meaning less chance of scratching the paint!

They sell it in www.detailingshed.com along with another excellent product, Iron Cleanse.

I would recommend 2 large microfibre drying towels plus some sort of quick detailer to aid drying.

I get most of the water off the car with the first towel then follow up with a mist of QD on a panel and wipe off with the other drying towel, works a treat :)

    This is my wash collection.

    And for drying.
