I've a budget of circa €7k and have narrowed down my choices to these 2.

Will be a daily driver and gonna try a bit of off-roading whilst I have the opportuinity.

Any views pros and cons would be greatly appreicated. Any feed back from owners and previous owners would also be greatly appreicated.

    Cheers

I'd have the surf, had a paj 2.8 old model which is superior to a sport and I would have swapped it for a surf.

    Assuming its a 3.0

7 grand is a lot of dough though, you'd get something a lot more modern for your money

Here's examples of what I've been looking at:

http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mitsubishi/Pajero/SPORT-LW/6113349285215940/advert?channel=CARS..... The pajero brings the budget to circa €7k.

If I had to pick one of the 3 surfs it would be the first link. Any opinions?

Saw a Surf driving around Douglas and it was lovely. I prefably will be looking get rid of back seats etc.

Lovely example Stephenmarr. Did you keep the seats in, in the back

i had the seats in it for the first year of ownership but got rid of them after couldnt justify the tax as i never had anyone in the back of it.
got all the paperwork done properly and all taxed up with no problems.

    Cheers for the reply.

Did you do the work yourself or did you get a company to commericalise it and if so who? From what I ve read I believe you need a cert from a recognised vehicle conversion company for commercial vat purposes.

    Thanks again.

That first Surf looks like a good example alright. Definitely would buy it over a Pajero sport. Unlike the Pajero, the later model Surf shares some of its basic components with its bigger sibling - the 90 series landcruiser, engine and gearbox in some models. They are a step up from the hilux pick-up for sure. Happy hunting.

Out of interest, you'd pick up a D4-D engined landcruiser (01/02) for the 7k no problem, they are better on diesel and more powerful than the old 3.0 turbo, and more roomy inside than a Surf. Better in the mucky stuff too. Any reason you ruled it out?

some tax offices want you to remove windows and fit metal others dont, metal floor others dont etc i changed mine over myself and got Naas to check it out they were very helpful.
just ring you tax office and see what THEY want. dont go doing a lot of work that may not be needed

this is what i had to do. my jeep was already registered in Ireland before i converted it.

    1. remove rear seats
    2. remove rear seatbelts.
    3. plug up all bolt holes for the seats and seatbelts with a metal putty no need to weld the up.
    4. get the jeep weighted with a printed weight docket
    5. a form from the doe test centre that needs to be signed by the garda

and thats it nothing to be done to the windows or floor pan.

when the above was done i had to go over to my tax office(nass) the teaster came out checked over the work done and she was happy.
she sent off the form and now all im waiting on is the doe which is up friday

i went into the doe centre and asked the tester do i need to do anything else he said everything was grand.

now just to pass the doe test. when its passed the form i will get i have to bring that over to the tax office and then i can tax the jeep.
