    Hey there folks,
This is just to triple check really and a bit of a dud of a question but as just one last confirmation, I presume you must have NCT up to date on your car before you can do your test in it yeah?

Also, if you want to do test in someone else's car, what do i need insurance wise to show the instructor? I've never used anyone else's car before so I'm not sure how the insurance would work. Do I need comprehensive insurance myself, or do I need to add my name to the other person's insurance?

Appreciate your help as I have my test in 4 weeks. Cheers guys!

The vehicle has to be road legal to do the test in it. No NCT is an easy fail for tester. You need to have the disc in the window, not sure if they'd accept the cert with no disc.

You sign a from saying your insured, I've never been asked to proof it and I've done all the tests, but I'd bring the insurance cert to be safe.. You only need 3rd party, you may be confusing "Driving other cars" extensions on some comprehensive policies but I don't think learners can have this. Doesn't matter if it's your policy transferred over to their car or you as a named driver on their policy.

So I can take the test in someone else's car once I have my own insurance cert to take with me and show them should they ask? That sounds like my best option. Thanks for that Del2005.

Once your insured in it. AFAIK learner's don't have driving other car extensions, so you would need to transfer your policy to the other car.

Do you have your own policy or are you a named driver? You can't transfer someone else's policy

Ah, ok. I have my own policy on my own car but won't have it ready in time for test as it has to go through the NCT. I'll look into transferring my policy so, thanks!
