Hi sat my test today and failed (grade 3, no complaints, comfortably my worst drive for months.) but had a few concerns

    1. Overheard a few instructors speaking outside about how the instructors told them they had lowered the pass rate to 1 in 4 and how it was great for them money wise? surely this isnt correct/fair?
    2. When failed asked him to clarify where one of the grade 2's occured and was told "i dont need to discuss that with you". As surely the test shoule be a learning experience this was a bit of a joke especially considering the 85 euro spent. is this stadnard practice that no explanation is required?
    3. Received no Grade 1 faults at all? surely this isnt correct? i got 9 grade 2's and no grade 1's WTF?
    4. Found the test overall very subjective and got 3 marks for progress hwre i never had before, is it best to just take chances in the test? Overall marking scheme very inconstant with pretests etc, but i suppose given a human factor and no proper review process in place, they have carte blanche to mark you for whatever they want

I know there are a number of knowledgeable people on here who may be able to explain this to me? especially number 2/3

    Thanks

    They are talking bull....

Their guidelines say they can give up to one minute of feedback. But they don't have to. Unfortunately it is that ridiculous.
    3. Received no Grade 1 faults at all? surely this isnt correct? i got 9 grade 2's and no grade 1's WTF?
Testers usually don't bother to put the grade ones down. Again, it would be better if they did more.

It is a little subjective. They are all trained and check to be of the same views. But they are human. You probably were a little over cautious during your test. But, DO NOT TAKE 'CHANCES'. Do however, take good oppertunities.
Overall marking scheme very inconstant with pretests etc.
    I don't understand this comment?

Is the no Grade one thing strange or usual?

    1. It's not fair, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's true. It's not the first time I've heard something like this. I'd be curious to know what test centre you went to?

    2. As far as I'm aware, no, they're not obligued to tell you where you went wrong. If they do, great, but they really don't have to tell you anything. I guess at the end of the day it is a test and they're the examiner, not your teacher. I failed recently and got talked through some of the reasons why. I didn't ask though, he volunteered the information.

    3. Hard to know with that one... maybe all the mistakes you made were obvious grade 2s. Or maybe he just didn't bother to write down any grade 1s since they don't actually count towards your result.

    4. I agree that it's very subjective.

Ill PM you the test Centre not sure of Mod Policy

Id have rather seen grade 1's as i said, if i fail i want to learn from it and not just be told hard luck you failed. Grade ones would help that

It's possible you didn't deserve any grade 1s! At least seeing the categories for the grade 2s should help. And if you feel you didn't drive well on the day compared to normally then it all could've been chalked up to nerves. It's very difficult to drive 'normally' when someones there with a clipboard next to you...

This can happen. People sometimes drive differently during the test. Nobody except you were in both the pre and actual tests. So you will know far more then anyone else if you made those mistakes.
Is the no Grade one thing strange or usual?
It's not unusual. (I feel I should answer that singing like Tom Jones. Sorry rambling) There have been complaints by ADIs about the lack of accurate marking of grade ones. You would have benifited from it, I feel.
You should be ok to name the test centre, so long as you don't say anything about a specific tester. Which I don't think you have yet. Mods can confirm.

Im more angry with myself than anything else was 30% of usual ability.

Maybe i got no grade 1's but getting three grade 2's for progress on left/right turns and no grade 1's just seems plain wrong especially when id call the borderline at best. I also went from 4 marks for driving too close to cars in first test to two for driving too far away from cars in the second (need to get that balance)

No problem with the test result overall its just the process seems ****ed with the usual Irish lack of transparency crap. Told i can apply straight away by instructor/wait three weeks by rsa

    Thanks for the comments guys

Take it as a learning experience. It will be easier next time.

You can apply straight away. You came fairly close. You will get it next time.
