    hey,
I have recently taken up runing and im loving it. I ran the Finglas 10k yesterday in the very slow time of 1h17m but as it was my first day I was still pretty proud. Im looking to join some sort of athletics/running club in Dublin to try and improve on this time and also help with some motivation. Im living in Citywest currently so anything around there would be a plus.
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Nearest one would be Tallaght AC, I think
Best one would be Bros Pearse in Knocklyon :)

Haha get out of it, don't listen to Ray OP, he is saying that because Bros Pearse is his club.
Tallaght is much better, has a lovely big clubhouse, changing rooms, weights rooms and 400m tartan track. (Bros pearse has a container unit and a grass strip :p). There is also a big group at your level in Tallaght, go down any evening mon-thursday before 7pm and ask for the fit4life group.

    and therefore the best :)

Seriously OP, there's a map here that you can use to find the clubs near you (or near your work, some people like to go straight from work to a club)
Every club will be happy to let you do a few sessions with them with no obligation, so if you go along to a club and find that they're all horrible people with terrible club colours coughtallaghtcough :) you don't have to join. Try another club where you might find the training times suit you better, or there are more people of your standard around.

Nothing to be scared of!! You'll just be asked your ability and goals and then hooked up with a suitable group of a similar level. Most of the time the group will just go for a run together, other times you will do a bit of speedwork on the track. Just go down around 7pm (tuesdays and thrusdays are best though) and ask anybody 'official' looking (i.e. wearing a tallght AC tracksuit) and they should be able to hook you up with the right person.

Ask for Terry (beard and glasses), Tuesday and Thursdays at 7, there's a good bunch (all levels catered for).

A basic group training session would have everyone do a warm-up run, then some sort of faster running, and a warm-down at the end.
Warm-up run would be 5-10 minutes of easy running.
The faster running would be shorter distances at a faster pace, broken up with rest periods. Eg, 10 x 200m, where you try to run every 200m at the same fast speed, and a minute rest in between each run. Or a tempo run where you run fastish for 15 or 20 minutes, then have a few minutes rest, then run for 15/20 minutes again.
And then at the end you'll go for a few minutes easy running again, and maybe do a bit of stretching.

Most of the time you'll find that there are people of around your standard, other people who haven't been very long in the club, and everyone's very friendly.
