Maplin are selling this portable tv, both in uk and Irish stores. People have said in the reviews it works in Europe, but if this includes Ireland I'm not sure. I'm sure it must work to be honest.

    It's rubbish.
It doesn't work here and doesn't work in lots of other places.

It only works on older digital systems, no DVB-T2, no MPEG4, no AAC, no MHEG5, no HD. Today even a small set needs to downsample HD as increasingly in Europe there are new channels only on HD. MPEG4 and DVb-T2 will increasingly be used for SD too.

Also few countries have rolled out DTT with suitable signal for general mobile coverage, most countries assume most viewers will use a chimney aerial.

It will receive basic UK Freeview in the UK, (Not DAB, the radio channels are on Freeview) but no Freeview EPG. No Freeview HD or Saorview or N.I. Mini-mux at all. Even in UK it will only work in a minority of areas due to the area needing a roof aerial.

Why? Shops have been selling non compatible TV's in Ireland for decades including UHF only ones in the analogue days.
Why should Maplin be any different?

But you can always buy, find it doesn't work and take it back, and make a hell of a fuss in front of a shop full of customers on a busy day. :D
