Hi folks, new to smart phones. I recently got a second/replacement samsung extreme Xcover for it's 'toughness', now this second phone has started giving similar problems to the first, which was replaced.

The phone locks so I can't answer an incoming call and I have to remove the battery to reset it. It also switches itself off when charging and on other occasions but mainly while on chagre overnight, which from googling seems a common enough problem. I have read that doing factory resets are also common enough for smart phones. I have got to stage where I am paranoid that the phone is off when ever the the screen goes blank. I use a nightclock app now to keep the phone 'on' while charging at night.

Anyhow rang the shop concerned and was advised to do a 'factory re-set' which I did and then reloaded all my contacts, apps and saved pics, lost texts and had to rejoin all my services. The reset worked but only for two weeks and now I'm back to square one.

So do smart phone owners regularly do these reboots for want of a better phrase or did I get a lemon in the Xcover phone. I picked the Xcover because I'm rough enough with phones and had another samsung tough phone which was perfect for me.

Can anyone recommend another tough phone or how to toughen up a normal phone by way of a hard case or screen protector.

The internal memory on the phone is about 2/3's full 50mb of 160mb available SD card has 1.2gb out of 1.8 available so I'm not filling the phone and making it run slow.

Check out the xda developer forum for your phone, see if your only one seeing these issues.

Generally don't have to factory reset at all unless phone software is bad or you install some very dodgy apps.

Android isnt Windows XP, you shouldnt really ever need to, unless updating or using mods.

Cheers folks. I only installed apps from the playstore and the majority of them were radio apps etc, nothing that even remotely looked dodgy. Looks like I'm heading back to the store and getting a different phone.

Can someone recommend a toughish phone or a good way to harden a normal phone. I like that you can put the xcover into your pocket with keys and coins and not a mark appear. I had a look at qubits and some of the cases you can buy for phones look fairly robust.

Look to see if there is a custom Rom for your phone, these often have less bugs than official software and run smoother.
