Antenna with Huawei b260a

Ok, So the last b260a went on the fritz and got a new one put it in the exact same spot and setup and instead of 5 bars of signal it only get's 1-2 and rarely 3...

Pretty annoying so I was trying to get an external antenna for it. I have one already but do not have the appropriate adapter to get it to work with the router...

The input for an antenna on the router is a SMA female

    sma-female.jpg

and on the antenna itself there is a mc-card connector

    connector_mc-card.jpg

Also I have an adapter I got wth the antenna that makes it the mc-card into a TNC female

    RP_TNC_male.jpg

So in the pics above is there any adapter I can (in this country) get that will make this friggin' thing work!? I'm pretty sure i named the connections correct but the pics are the exact ones I have at least.

I don't mind getting it online once I actually know exactly what I'm looking for but I'm stumped at the minute at what/where to get it

Anyone know what the jazz is going on!?

(Feel free to move it to the appropriate forum if it's in the wrong one)

Cut off the existing plug and stick on one of these http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_nkw=sma+male+crimp but then you need the crimping tool, almost impossible to fit without the correct one.

I think what you need is a SMA Male to MMCX Female adaptor like these http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_nkw=sma+male+mmcx+female guess you know well enough not to take my word for it and check yourself, but no great loss at under €2 http://www.ebay.ie/itm/SMA-male-plug-MMCX-female-jack-straight-adapter-/320690877808 if I'm wrong. Touble is you could be 2 weeks waiting for one to arrive :(.

I hate getting stuff from china cause it takes so long! i don't mind paying a quid or two extra from the uk

    But I found this http://wireless.gumph.org/content/3/7/011-cable-connectors.html

A Male MC and and a Male RP-TNC is the connections I have... So I need either a Female RP-TNC /SMA male OR a Female MC / SMA male

So ideally this is the one i want - http://www.ebay.ie/itm/SMA-male-plug-MMCX-female-jack-straight-adapter-/320690877808?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones_Communication_Coax_Cables_Connectors&hash=item4aaaaa7570

SMA male plug to MMCX female jack... but it's in china

So if i use the adapter I already have i can get these from the uk

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Adapter-RP-SMA-Plug-Female-pin-RP-TNC-Jack-Male-pin-/280907447195?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item4167637b9b

RP SMA Plug (Female pin) to RP TNC Jack (Male pin)

    then connect it too

    a RP-SMA Female / RP-SMA male

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Adaptor-SMA-Plug-conv-male-SMA-Plug-conv-male-/270652407153?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item3f0423fd71

and that would do it right? that seems to be the way to go... does the reverse polarity thing make a diffence in this case?

I ended up getting 5 bars of signal on the router itself so I'm content enough as it is! interested to see what an antenna would do but doubt theres much difference no but thanks anyways fellas

Actually the plug on the old router i had went kaputt so i made one myself

You can get those universal adapters where you set the polarity and voltage yourself then chop the usb end of the huawei's router off and just patch them together

it worked for the router fine

The only thing is I can't remember if it's safer to over-power or under-power the voltage!

Hey guys, I've Huawei b260a place on the window, average download 2.6MB/S..
If i place the router in the center of the house and connect the external SMA aerial conection to the tv aerial on the roof, will it improve my conection or do i need a special aerial for the router?

Does connecting an antenna to the b260a improve 3g signal received or boost WiFi connection around the house?

Good question ;) In the case of the B260a the antenna socket is definitely for 3G. Many other 3G routers have an external WiFi antenna with the same connection, but then they get the 3G connection from a USB dongle so no point have a 3G antenna connection on them.

    Hi All.
wondering how things went with the external aerial on the b260a router. I would like to try one but would like to know what frequency 3 use from their masts as its very important to use the correct one for max signal strength and matching to the RF output of the router. My preference would be to use a directional aerial.
P.S. Both Radionics and Farnell carry a good selection of RF, sma, tnc, N connectors and adapters here in Ireland.

Check the Remote 3G Installation thread for about as much info as you're likely to get here.
