Girls: Would you date someone unemployed?

I lost my job a couple of months back. It's been rough, to be honest. Obviously, things could be much worse. I don't have any children to feed or a mortgage which, if unpaid, would result in a house being foreclosed on. That said, getting the dole was stressful. I apply for jobs but my qualifications are in humanities, and therefore not very employable, especially with unemployment in the Republic at 14.9%.

I haven't been dating since I lost my job. I haven't really even tried. I just feel, being unemployed, that no person would want to be with me. I am not a deadbeat, or do not consider myself as such. I am trying to better myself, to find a job etc. But I do feel that, when it comes down to it, who is going to want to date someone unemployed? The support of seeing someone, however, would make this time so much more bearable.

So the question I would like to ask girls, and I would prefer them to be totally honest, would you date someone you met if you discovered they were unemployed? I'd rather people were honest rather than just saying something nice for niceness sake.

Honestly? It would put me off a little bit initially, but it's not a deal breaker so long as you're not one of those people on the dole long term and have no intentions of ever getting a job.

A couple of months and you're actively looking? Not a big deal. Especially with the way things are in the job market atm.

The only thing that might be an issue down the line is if you needed to emigrate to get work. That would obviously put strain on a relationship, but I doubt anyone you're dating would be thinking that far ahead at the early stages.

(just to put my reply in perspective, I was recently unemployed for some time, working at moment, but my contract will finish in the new year so could find myself unemployed again if I don't find something else. So maybe I'm more understanding than others given my own circumstances :P)

OP, relationship issues is a forum for getting advice pertinent to an issue you are experiencing in a relationship...not to poll a specific gender for their views - which is pointless anyway as every point on the spectrum will be represented by someone.

As this isn't a relationship issue, I'm locking the thread.

Please read the charter before posting in the forum again.

    Cheers.
