Hi everyone just looking for some advice so i hope i'm in the right place! I'm a newly qualified secondary teacher (biology, chemistry,ag science) and,as with everyone else, i've been applying everywhere for jobs but no luck yet. Although i will keep applying for teaching jobs, i think i will end up back in college within the next few years to do a masters in something, but i'm not sure what just yet. So i started thinking of applying for some science jobs as well but i don't know where to start or what to look for-it seems experience and in some cases a masters is necessary to get a science job.Can anyone shed some light on the subject? Would i be able to get a science job with my biology degree? I think the experience of working in some area of science (or agriculture) might help my decision for a masters.

Any advice would really be appreciated :D

Lab technicians are traditionally only educated to degree level. However, the current job market means you might be competing with Masters or even PhDs.

Is it possible for you to work unpaid for a short time (say, six weeks)? If so, I'd brush up your CV and send it out to university research groups who might be looking for a free spare pair of hands for the summer.

Well at the moment I'm working in Teagasc as part of a group researching potato viruses and in college my final year project was based on molecular biology so I gained a lot of valuable lab experience during that time...I've seen a few advertisements for Quality Assurance Officers which a friend told me I should apply for so I'll give it a go and see what happens

Do not do a jobbridge scheme... I'm in a 'science' jobbridge scheme and I am currently desperately looking for paid work.
