Subway

I'm currently trying to drop weight (fat) at the moment. Simply put, trying to burn more calories than i take in.

I have recently noticed that some of the subway subs advertise themselves as been below 300 cals for a 6 inch sub. Now i've been avoiding rolls etc like the plague for a while but on hearing/reading this im beginning to think that maybe a subway roll could be valid option for lunch (or even getting a 12 inch which would fill till easily after the gym in the evening).

Just wondering what peoples opinions are?

Mine would be if you can pick up something relatively filling for below 300 cals as long as its not every day it should be fine.

The subs i'm talking about are the Turkey & Ham & Beef subs mainly

    Stay away from the bread.

    Have a salad instead.

As a general rule i agree, but from a pure calorie perspective if the sub is below 300 cals it fits pretty well into a daily plan of trying to keep cals down.

Yeah it does seem too good to be true to be honest.

From a weight loss perspective it's very easy to allow for a sub as one of your daily meals, as far as I know the calories don't reflect any cheese or sauces added to the sub though. I had subway often enough while dieting and continued to lose fat. Only problems really are they are a little low in protein and don't have long-lasting satiety, at least for me.

You can't rely on 400 calories of [white!?!?!] bread and 200 of processed meat to get you by from lunch til after the gym.

Why not? I train hard but usually only have about 400kcal at lunch, around 14h, until about 1930 or 20h after the gym. Does me alright.

OP Subway isn't that bad, and a lot of the sandwiches are under 400kcal yes so at least you know how much you're consuming. But it's probably not a great option due to the processed meat and bread you are consuming. It's ok if you're stuck I guess.

    I get:

    6 inch wheat double steak
    mozzarella cheese.
    Avocado
    All the salads
    No sauce
    No salt and pepper

Does the job and if you break down the nutritional info its not bad at all for someone whos doing weight training etc.
