    Link to last year's thread:

cost is only €10. or €15 on the day.

Map of the route from last year - mapmyrun

    Registration at run Ireland: http://www.runireland.com/events/clones-canal-festival-10k

    Festival website: Here

    Facebook page: here

What do you get: BBQ - fruit - snacks - water - finishers medal - shower facilities - the opportunity to spend any old Irish Punt you may have lying around.

Seems like the organisers have listened to some of the feedback from last year and have dropped the Price significantly.

Fastest time last year for men was 34.54 and women was 44.24

I'm not sure what the category prizes are this year. I will contact the organiser and try and find out.

Obviously, by my name, I am associated with the town, and I did help out quite a bit on race day last year, as I was injured and living at home, but I'm not involved with the event this year.

I'm not living in Clones now, but I hope to make it back to do the race, even though it's in between a couple of races I've already registered for.

I've run the course quite regularly, it has some inclines, but no real big hills, it's a typical Monaghan / clones terrain. All of it in on road, with the 5k-7k being the hilliest sections.

You finish on a hill, if anyone knows Fermanagh street, you have to run up that and finish on the diamond.

Don't let the name of the race fool you, you will not be running anywhere near a canal.

It would be great to see a good turnout for the race, the reduced price should certainly help this, and the festival itself is always good fun and well attended.

Anything else I can answer, or speak about, just ask me and I'll see what I can do.

A canal festival with no obvious canal related activities in a town that accepts non legal tender! Very intriguing!

There's also a soapbox race, where you can go watch people drive down a steep hill and go over a ramp, which will lead to almost certain death!

Bring a camera, we love to have as many pictures of our loved ones losing their life as possible

A 5k route has been added to this event. I'm assuming it's the same price as the 10k (€10), as I don't see any other options.

I don't know the route, but start time for the 5k will be at 3:15

Just a little bump for this. I was chatting to Ross, the organiser of the race, yesterday and he said there's been a bit more interest in it over the past few days. I don't know the numbers for it yet.

Also, I have been hooked into helping out with it, and doing the timing, so I won't be running it....though I think I'll run it earlier in the morning for myself anyway.

On a positive note, on the day registration will apparently remain at €10, the online price, to help attract more people to do it.

There is over €500 worth of prizes to category winners too, a decrease on last years €1,000, but also a much smaller registration fee.

I hope you have a great day at it, and if you have any questions, please ask.

I have attached the list of 10k runners to this post. The 5k results will be up tomorrow.

It was a great day for standing around watching you all running, a horribly hot day to run in though. The run itself went very well, the course was well marked and the stewards did a great job all the way round.

Unfortunately the bib numbers were very disappointing. As they were only delivered last night, there was nothing Ross was able to do about it. The numbers made the finish line very difficult to get the timing correct, and it seems a few people were missed, but we are trying to rectify that.

Chip timing would be great, but the low entry fee wouldn't be possible with chip timing. This is only the 2nd year of the event, and it's improving in numbers and, hopefully, in experience too.

Well done to all the runners, and the winners, who were as follows:

    10k Men

    1st - Philip Smith - 37:03
    2nd - Mike Keely - 38.13
    3rd - Shane Brady - 39.31

    10k Women -

    1st - Nuala Reilly - 43.33
    2nd - Freda Comiskey - 43.54
    3rd - Lorraine McLoughlin - 48.22

    5k Men

    1st - Sean Husband

    5k Women

    1st - Sarah Jane Flanagan - 23.48 (2nd overall in 5K)

Streets of Monaghan 5k is on Friday September 21st. It was a great event last year, and I'm sure it will be again this year.

Is there a mapmyrun route for this 5k? Or do you have any more info like what time it is at, cost of entry, register on the day etc?

Last year it started at entrance to the Louis (on the cootehill road) went up
Past dunnes, out by the bus station, down glaslough street, then down dublin street, up past the round about, then down going up towards the Louis again (on that little side road down past the ink shop, if it's still there) then you do the lap one more time.

I'm not sure what time it is at, think it was 7.30pm last year. It's a really flat race, so a pb would be possible.

You can register on the day, try googling streets of Monaghan 5k for last year's map. I think it was €10 last year, with prizes for loads of categories and a mountain of tea, cakes and sandwiches.

I won't be doing it this year as I live in Dublin, but I'd definitely recommend it
