As the title says.. is it possible?

Arriving Munich at 19.40 - Train leaves at 20.04

Do you think this is realistic considering I have to collect a suitcase aswell?

If not i'll have to wait an hour for next train, or try get a transfer with Four seasons Travel...but would rather train cos its cheaper! :P

By the time you get out of the airport, it wont be an hour till the next train.

Not a hope imo. You'll have hardly got off the plane and through passport control at that stage.

You'll be doing well to make the second train.

Ballooba, good and all a google is, it cannot give a response based on personal experience that members of this forum can.

You could give that kind of reply to almost every question in the travel forum but its not very helpful.

I thought of explaining myself, but it's really lazy to come here without googling the query. There's a very good link in the first page of those Google results to the Tripadvisor forum where this question was comprehensively dealt with. Here's the link I found using Google: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187309-i118-k5193547-Munich_airport_to_train_station_enough_time-Munich_Bavaria.html

there's a train from Munich airport to town every 10 min.
don't fret. It'll all be grand.

where are you heading to anyhow?
Munich city or are you connecting to farther afield?

    ok,
blue seasons transfers are to Tirol (innsbruck and the likes)
If going to innsbruck then you will be looking to get the S8 at 20:04 to the main station and then 18 minute wait till the train to Innsbruck.
Should you miss the S8 theres also an S1 at 20:11 that gets you in with a few minutes to spare (and its essential you try and be at the back of the train which will land you out nearest the long distance trains and just save that few extra seconds)

To be honest its a wee bit tight but with the backup of a train an hour later its possible.

The one thing you should do is buy a regular price flexible ticket in advance over the web - which allows you to take the later train without any penalty, saves precious time in getting the connection to town and should all go belly up (flight chronically delayed) then you get all your money back.

Heading to Ellmau, but getting train to Kufstein then a friends picking me up!

I'm familiar with the S8, but S1? Does it leave the same platform underground?

ok, I'll go back to the original question.
Can the train be made in time? Yes it can.
If the plane is on time, or ahead of time, your luggage comes out reasonably quick and you arent sharing passport check with a heap of russians that didnt get their visas sorted in advance.

From using the flight a good few times over the past 12 years, its normally on time and everything runs nice and quick so more chance than not you'll make that train.

As I said before, get a ticket in advance online and that might save you just that couple of minutes that means you getting the connection rather than messing with a ticket machine.

Regarding tickets, Im sure your friends have told you that the bayern ticket is your only man and does you on all regional trains in bavaria including to Kufstein just on the border.

If you were to just miss the 20.04 connecting at Ostbahnhof, If I were you I'd just get the next Sbahn s1 or S8 to the main station Hauptbahnhof, they both leave off the same platform opposite each other at the airport.
At the main station you can grab a beer and some food and catch the next regional train to Rosenheim (-i.e. for the connection to Kufstein).
These start at Hauptbahnhof so you can sit on it already 10 or 15 min before it departs (with your beer and sandwich !) and relax.

The 4 seasons transfer shuttle sounds like a tempting option but I amn't sure if they dont group people together anyhow in their minibus so you could well be waiting for folks off other flights so its advantage in being direct could well be lost by the waiting around. Not to mention that the motorways around Munich get quite busy during holiday season so your extra money spent doesnt guarantee you will be in Kufstein any quicker than a train, even a later one.
