Hi I'm thinking of upgrading from my Samsung gs2 to a Sony experia s. Going to give my gs2 to my girlfriend as she's constantly playing with my phone. I'm just wondering has anyone got one and what their views and experience of it is. Thanks!

I went from an S2 to an Xperia S myself.
The Xperia is a better phone specs wise and I really do like it.
1 issue that I find for me is that the Xperia is a lot heavier in feel to the Galaxy, something that you'll notice straight away. It's in no way a deal breaker, but if you are expecting it to be as light as the Samsung, it won't be!!

Anything specific that you want to know?

Is it very bulky with the plastic cover on? I use a plastic back cover on my s2. Basically I'm just wondering is it as user friendly and are there any real benefits to having the Sony. I heard you have to update to ice cream sandwich, is that a big issue?

I use mine without any protective covers or screen protectors or any of that, but I wouldn't say it's bulky! It actually fits in the hand very nicely, it's just a tad bit heavier than the galaxy was. The official weights are Galaxy S2: 116grammes vs the Xperia S: 144grammes.

As for user friendliness, that's really a personal area. A lot of people prefer Sony's android skin to that of Samsung's. My preferance is Sony's.

With the Xperia, you can connect it directly to a HD TV with a cable that comes in the box. You can even use your remote control to scan content and play videos or view pictures etc. Also, the Xperia has NFC, which are these little tags that can be programmed to do certain tasks when the phone is touched off them. Tasks include turn off Wi-Fi, turn on Bluetooth or start a particular app.

Other than that, most features are probably the same across the 2 phones!

As for the upgrade to ICS, you can do that should you wish, you don't have to at all. If you want to do it, it's as simple as plugging the device into you computer whilst Sony's PC Companion program is running, and following the on screen instructions.

That's all I can think of now :D

Xperia S is best phone I ever owned.

I'm mildly biased in that my last 4 or 5 phones have all been Xperias.

Reason I pick them is the software on the phone looks professional ( the little bit they add on top of android) and I don't have many problems or bugs that would make me not buy again.

Do check out the other Xperia S thread on this forum which mentions the screen tint issue.

I wasn't effected by it though. The camera is the best on android in the Xperia S I think. I use mine a good bit and people are amazed at the pics and vids I got with it.

Is this limited to certain remotes?

I find the Xperia S scratches easily enough, ovrall a nice phone though, i prefer it to my 3GS

There is a thread on it on here which is proabaly worth reading

I replaced my broken N8 with an Xperia S at the weekend. I really really like it so far.

It had gingerbread but I was able to upgrade to ICS through the PC companion.

Yeah, it is, you can try yours and see if it works!

I thought it was limited to Sony Bravia TV's, but then read somewhere that it was working on an LG TV, so I tried my Philips TV and it worked!! :pac:
