There's a documentary tonight on Channel 4 about the Knight family in Britain. Here's Channel 4's summary:
The Knights are dad 'Rowdy Ricky Knight', mum Julia 'Sweet Saraya', brothers 'Zak Zodiac' and Roy 'The Zebra Kid', and little sister 'Britani Knight'. They claim to be the biggest wrestling bloodline in the world.

With a moral code of their own, this family pack a real punch, often at each other. They 'live, eat and breathe wrestling' while running the 'World Association of Wrestling' from their council house in suburban Norfolk.

With tough personal histories fuelling their drive, wrestling has always kept them together, although it is now threatening to tear them apart.

As one of America's biggest wrestling federations searches Britain for talent, the kids are selected for try-outs. This could make their careers in America, but take them away from home and their tight-knit family life for ever.

The Knights might get what they always wanted, but will success make or break them?

I've heard of Britani and Saraya but not the others. Britani is in FCW at the moment I think?

Anyway I'll give the programme a look but you never quite know what to expect with wrestling documentaries like this. I hope they're not going to be in kayfabe mode the whole time.

PS 'biggest wrestling bloodline in the world'? :pac:

Zebra Kid has been in and out of prison on a few occasions for assulting a police officer,a football referee and a drug dealer respectively!

Ricky Knight said on another forum that I frequent that he and his family were about 60% happy with how the documentary represents them,so could be a bit of a trainwreck by all accounts.

    Looks ok so far

Zak will have to get roided up then so I suppose.

I thought it was quite good. I don't think it made the family look bad.

Hopefully she can make it to the main roster.

Yeah showed the Knight's in a positive light for the most part, hopefully Britani will make it big over there.

I agree, the family came across well. Very human faults an all, good to see in people in that line of work, felt bad for zak, but had a laugh about him complaining about a lack at abs with a pint infront of him
It would be good to see paige in the main roster one day

Didn't treat Wrestling as a joke so everything is cool beyond. The Knights could have been shown to be way worse.

Cringed at Paige showing a WWE contract on TV and later saying it was the biggest ****ing Wrestling company in the world.

    I liked it.

    I really enjoyed that.

Zac struck me as someone who really enjoys doing wat he does but maybe lacks the drive to push himself on - as typified by the scene in the pub at the end.

I really warmed to the mum throughout aswell. Strikes me as a top quality person who just wants to raise the best possible family she can

Really liked it. The parents really didn't come across well at the start because they made it all about seeing their kids become stars, especially the mother. At the end though they were likable in how they missed Paige.

Zak was very likable. Really wanted it but failed and add to that how his sister apparently didn't really want to be a wrestler. He knew himself he wasn't fit enough to get signed.

Best of luck to them all.

Yeah must admit my heart went out to Zak as he just didn't seem to have the drive to reach the potential body-wise which he clearly has. Sooo wished I could take him under my wing and show him how I transformed my physique primarily through the expert advice of a personal trainer who is young and knows how to push beyond the comfort zone. No disrespect to his dad's techniques but nowadays there is a lot more involved in sculpting a built body than a few ab crunches and a home gym machine!

But all that being said, I admire that family and I thought it was an excellently put together documentary which just showed them the way they are.

Agreed, it was put together well. The mam and dad came across loving and genuine.

Zak could sort himself out with an hour in the gym a few days a week and eating the right foods. Its really not rocket science. I think he missed the lean part of the lean muscle gain they asked for.

A quick look at WWE and you can see a guy does not have to be huge anymore.

I think his knee will stop him getting to WWE, he would probably fail the medical, possibly explains his outlook at the end of the show.

Would like a follow up in 4/5 years time to see where they are then. I enjoyed it but you could see why wwe chose Britani and not Zak

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭mikey13

Its a shame for him but at the end you could tell that he didnt really want it 100%

Its great for her i saw her on NXT probably bout 2weeks ago didnt know who she was but thaught she really good (plus she dam sexy) but shes FCW diva of the month so shes obviously doing really well and could easily make it onto main roster soon considering theres only 5divas atm :p

this was really well done. i think Zak could sort himself out if he just dieted and went to the gym as opposed to his father's training methods. giving up the pints would be a good idea as well. at the very least he can always brag that he got onto WWE TV before his sister

wasn't expecting to actually see Paige in Florida. i think she needs to brush up on her wrestling history though because if she wants to change women's wrestling then the Attitude Era is the last place she should want to bring it back to. unless she wants to be wrestling in gravy and chocolate pudding. crushed we didn't get a cameo appearance from Ivelisse

I think see was referring to Trish & Lita.

Beth Phoenix & Natalya are very good, if they only had some competition. Oh and Tamina maybe.

Sounds like they're massively high on her in-ring ability! Fair play, thought it was good watch to be honest!

i thought they had a policy about not calling anyone up under 21?

Not surprised, WWE like people with a bit of a British background (that can also obviously work the American style). Makes them stand out. She'd get all of that with the Knights training her, Saraya was great in her day (prob still is, to be fair, I just haven't seen her perform in years). She's got a great brain for wrestling too, a good blend of old and new school in there, that she'd obviously be able to pass on. Hope Britani breaks in over there, great to see talent from these shores doing so well!

I didn't feel bad for Zak, to be honest. He's got the contacts to make it that so many others who ARE in shape cry out for. Being with a respected family like them will mean the door will always be open to him if he gets his act together. The pub scene was very powerful, I wonder if he got the irony of it himself. That said, he's very young so has the time to change. But, if he doesn't make it, it's nobody's fault but his own.

Even if Zak doesnt make it to WWE at some point he said hes more than happy staying at home and will continue to wrestle so good for him :) plus he was on RAW in a televised match against The Big Show! i know it wasnt anything more than a quick squash but its still pretty awesome!! wonder if il see him in november at Birmingham tapings being destroyed by Ryback :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

We can only hope that we don't even recognise the name Ryback by then.....

I must admit i do enjoy Rybacks 'matches' i think that HHH or Vince (whoevers in charge) are bored of him now though they moved him up from randoms to actually WWE superstars and Jack Swagger nearly got best of him

I watched this on 4od and it had "series 1;ep 1" under the title. I heard that channel 4 were waiting to see where she gets to next and then do a follow up which could turn into something of a series if there is enough happening with the family back home.

I thought it was a great show, really avoided the carny-cringy side to indy wrestling that the general public usually focuses on and showed that there is real people behind it all.

I enjoyed it too. They all came across well really. Interested to see where she goes from here, she has everything going for her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 348 ✭✭mikey13

We can only hope! i think they could follow the rest of the family without her actually being a main part obviously they could mention her every now and again but just follow Zaks attempts to get into WWE would be interesting

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised to see what happened between him and Jack Swagger this week. For one thing, Swagger has barely been treading water the last month or so and I think it would be good to see a program.

I thaught it was suprising that Swagger was the one to almost get the better of Ryback but it would definatly be good to see some sort of fued going although i can see them finally 'feeding' Ryback three and maybe building upto Ryback v Swagger, Reks & Hawkins at Summerslam maybe..

Doubt it. Doubt WWE knew about this show either. They certainly didn't cooperate with the filming.

Well they must have known something if they allowed them to show parts of the 2009 dvd and smackdown.

Seemed more "fair use" than them getting actual direct permission.

For sure. WWE wouldn't allow a camera anywherein, or let footage be shown unless it consented.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,116 ✭✭✭starviewadams

And to all them to show excerpts of Britani/Paige in FCW,which they obviously didn't have to do.

Paige was wrestling on Nxt again this week against Guerrero's daughter who looks terrible.

If this had WWE cooperation they would have given the documentary team boardcast quality footage. Instread they used a DVD of 2009 WWE bought down the market :P and low res rip of an FCW show as they are pretty anal about showing themselves in the best light production wise.

Kinda like Beyond The Mat, would you agree that the same thing probably happened with that?

Nope WWE gave them broadcast footage and signed a contract with the maker.

I saw one of their matches on YouTube recentlly, Britani/Paige looked decent but Guerrero was awful.

Certainly did not enjoy this as much as others, but it was a decent little watch and a good view of what wrestling is like outside the glitz and glamour of the mainstream.

The father came across as a right ass I thought. The mother seemed a genuine sort. Quite the looker in her day I would say.
