Would you do something good if you could never get credit for it?

Say you could do something that would take a good bit of effort and time out of your life, that would aid some people that you had never met a great deal... but you could never take credit for it and the credit would go to someone else who had nothing to do with it. That person would take then credit out of selfish reasons.

Would you go ahead with it? genuinely.

I was thinking this when I was watching batman, the dark knight and alfred said sometimes batman, you have to be the bad man. If I was batman I don't know if I could to it. I might use my powers to go around chinning gimps who think they're great.

Does peeing a bit of poo off the side of the toilet bowl count?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

    Of course I would!

Imagine this scenario, you have come up with a cure for cancer but you have to let someone else take the credit, are you trying to tell me you'd not share it to the world anyway???

The little happy feeling you get inside when you do something good is enough for me :)

yet you see some slimeball taking the credit for your work? imagine being falsely accused of something minor on a bus and becoming a social pariah in your own home town for something patheticly insignificant, kids start throwing bricks at your house etc.

Yet you know you've saved thousands of people. You're going to die a less than zero and you're the only person who knows you're a hero.

    No way.

Yes! The smug feeling of self-satisfaction and "Ooh, martyrdom!" would be enough for me. And I'd know, that's the most important thing.

I'd do something good then go after the obnoxious cunt who took the credit, and then I'd do something really bad.

Yes of course. People do good deeds everyday without getting credit for them.

I'd release stale, rotten farts and blame it on someone else. It's become an artform at how good I am at it and try to contain the laughter as people shout at each other for causing such an eye-watering smell. :pac:

I've not had any bricks thrown at my house, they must have the wrong guy or else they've gone after the fella who was 5 seats down from me who was watching a clip of 2 dogs riding on his laptop while roughing up the suspect!

I am a regular blood donor and my donees will never know who I am.

Then again, I've told you AH'ers, thus rendering my 'not getting credit' invalid :pac:

The regular none boardsie me does a lot of stuff for other people and never request's any form of credit what so ever ! you actions dictate who you are, not the thanks you get for said actions ...

At the end of the day, how you feel about yourself matters more than what others think.

If I cured cancer I'd know, and I'd be feeling pretty damn good about myself.

Sorry man, I'm aiming for your car but Specsavers have a three week backlog and my near sightedness is dragging my throwing arm left instead of right. That's why I've to get the kids to do it. But hey, if they hit your car, it was my idea, not theirs the little bástards. Not taking credit for my idea

I bet you tell everyone when you go too. Nothing wrong with that, but the question is if you could never take credit.

And tbh imo giving blood is not really taking a lot of time and effort, you even get crisps out ot it.

what if I got the credit for it? and I kept going where you went an telling everyone that I cured it.

ie> yep, you don't get people like me everyday, a real hero, not like that guy, look at the state of him

and then you couldn't say anything but one day you resorted to assault on a bus.

slam, life in the gutter and me on the front of time magazine.

Put it this way, which one would you rather be, the unknown hero or the false hero?

We can't all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.

    to quote Joey Tribbiani

"there's no such thing as a selfless good deed"

so even if you didnt get credit, you'd still be doing it to make yourself feel good.

Yeah but since when did the doctors get credit for these things?

I know what the doctor does and I know what the nurse does. Credit is applied respectively.

They're hardly batman, going around hated by everyone but knowing they're doing the right thing.

If I'm ever in a serious crash or develop a serious illness, its going to be the experienced specialist doc I want to see. You know, the ones with the medical degree and years of training and experience.

Valuable as they are, nurses don't have the same skillset.

big pharma patents cure / copyrights the DNA sequence , and refuses to share it with the world cos that would not be in the shareholders interest

Reminds me of an episode of friends where phoebe tries to do a selfless act but realizes it's impossibe because she's only doing it to make herself happy, thus rendering it unselfless.

Ot though, I probably would but it would feel horrible knowing that nobody else knows.
Imagine the amount of people through the ages that have done some massive thing or invented something and are unknown or their credit was stolen, bound to be loads I'd wager.

    Not sure..

I think id have to really care about the person or cause that I was doing the good deed for!
