Don't know what to do with myself this year

    Hey everyone,
So I'm 19 and I've no idea what I'm going to do with myself this coming year. I really want to get back into education. I want to do a college course, I got accepted into one course but it wasn't a course that I really wanted to do, and I had applied for another one which would have been my dream course so I had to let the first one go since they wanted me to pay for and accept it before I found out whether I got into my dream course or not. I ended up not getting my dream course, as the demand is so high and I didn't have enough experience. I'm on a waiting list. I've applied for the same kind of course somewhere else and they said they'd call me for an interview in early August if my application is successful. Chances are I won't get that either.

I've done the CAO, but with foundation maths my choices are very slim, and there is nothing I want to do on it, but I'm under pressure from my family to go and do something this year, so if I can't get the PLC course I want, I'm going to have to take this computer course the CAO will offer me even though I don't want to do it and it's hours from home. I don't see the point of doing a course you've no interest in but my family don't see it that way. They want me out doing something, which I can understand since I spent all last year sitting around the house.

I'm terrified that if I don't get a PLC course I want to do, I'll have to take the computer course hours away, be miserable, and end up failing it or graduating and having a crappy job forever.

    Any advice?

If you don't get the dream course for this year, what's to stop you taking a year out, doing some traveling or working abroad, and applying again to get the course for next year? Every cloud, silver lining and all that.

I know you're probably getting impatient to get into the course and on with your life but there's nothing wrong with taking a bit of time out away from it all. A year makes little difference in the long run, and you'll have a better chance of doing well in your interview if they see you're a little older, maturer and absolutely certain that the course is right for you.

    Hope this helps somewhat :)

What course do you want to do?

some people have their mind set on something they want to do when the leave school but for a lot they don't.

for me I took a year out before college because I had no idea what I wanted to do, just a general idea. I did a course for the sake of it but didn't follow on with it because I just had no interest. with the money I saved from working I went and did a course I wanted.

you have plenty of options, even if you don't get the course you want you should be able to do something in that line?
