I am thinking of upgrading my Ultegra 6600 crankset to Sram Red. Question is I am not sure can I just swop it out or do I need to change the BB. The Sram site says its BB30 compatible. My bike is a 2009 FeltF4SL http://2009.feltracing.com/09-catalog/r ... f4-sl.aspx
    Any info would be great,
    Thanks
    Paulieb

The Ultegra 6600 crank spindle will have a diameter of 24mm, unless your bike has a BB30 bottom bracket (which has a 30mm spindle) The Sram Red also comes in a GXP option, this has 24mm diameter on the drive side and 22mm on the non-drive side so you would need a GXP bottom bracket.
I think most cranksets come with bottom brackets these days.
The simple option for an upgrade if you are still unsure is a Dura-Ace crankset.

    Some reading.

afaik (and i am open to correction on this) shimano uses its own proprietry BB86 (BB90) bottom brackets, and its not compatible with BB30. Im sure however, that there are adaptors available to allow you use BB30 on your bike tho.

I would be careful with SRAM Red cranksets. They've changed the chainring design recently and created compatibility problems with even their own 2011 stuff. Can't remember the details but worth researching.

Also, my SRAM cranks/BBs tend to be creakier than the Shimano and Token ones I have.

If you really want the SRAM it might be worth picking up a used one instead. They come up for sale fairly regularly.
