I bought a run around car a few months back and the only problem was the seatbelts were lose as in not tight and basically they dont work, i just wrap them around me when driving :o (stupid i know). Iv kept putting of fixing them and now the NCT is up at the end of the month and I know iv to go about sorting it.

can someone tell me if this is an easy DIY fix or would I be better of going to an auto shop or mechanics and get it done properly? as they might need replacing.

    cheers, much appreciated.

There is an easy DIY. Usually it's just that the belts need lubricant.
Pull belt all the way out and spray liberally with silicone oil or similar where the belt rolls up, that's where the roller and spring sits. This should get the spring working again.
If belt still doesn't work at all after this you need to get a new spring.

HI our seatbelts weren't retracting either , so failed NCT , we got some from a scrapyard and had a mechanic fit them for the cost of labour , we tried to fix ours first but they are very tricky so I'd advise going to a mechanic just to be sure .

cheers il give the lubricant a shot first and see how i get on. If i do need a new spring , is it an expensive job if brought to a garage?
