    Hi,

My parents live in a border area and can pick up Freeview as well as Saorview.

Need an option to replace their analogue TV & VCR (yes VCR). Ideally want a dual tuner so they can record on one channel and watch another

I read about this Humax on other threads
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Humax-HDR-FOX-T2-Freeview-Recorder/dp/B004BMB2XC/ref=cm_rdp_product.

Is this the best option? Are their cheaper alternatives (apart from USB and external HD setup)?

    Thanks in advance.

According to a recent newspaper report there are PVRs currently in for Saorview testing which should also work with the Freeview signal from NI.

The Humax you mention is reported to work with both as do the Sony PVRs but they do have their little niggles as reported elsewhere. Maybe best to wait for a Saorview approved model, still 3 months to analogue switchoff so the VCR will work until then.
