    Hi lads,

My brother replaced a handbrake cable on his 06 Ssangyong Kyron today (rear wheel drive).

All done with no hardship, until he attempted to use it - it will stop the car from rolling forwards, but not backwards.....

He took off the disc for a look to see if there was anything obvious and took two pictures but we are now stumped.

Pics below, and any help would be appreciated.....

    Many thanks.

    Are both shoes moving freely?

I'd get someone to pull the handbrake slowly and check that both shoes are engaging.

Does it sound like something you've come across before?

If only one shoe is engaging the drum then it may well only brake in one direction alright.

    Hi there,

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I was just wondering how you got on with this problem?

I have an 07 Kyron and we have the same problem. The handbrake will stop the car rolling forwards, but not backwards.

We had new handbrake cables installed and still no joy.

Have brought it to countless mechanics now at this stage and no-one can seem to figure it out.

Would love to know how your brother got on and if we ever sorted this out?

    Thanks!

Hi - it was nothing to do with the cable...

There is a little cylinder inside the drum, that he took out and had "a fiddle with", (he manually adjusted it; his words) and it sorted the problem out.
Sorry i cant be more specific about it, but I just rang him there and that's as much as he can remember too.
He done both sides - maybe someone else might be able to give a better description of what this is for you. :)

Edit - actually it sounds like what he adjusted is in the bottom of this picture.

Many thanks for the info, greatly appreciated!

No mechanic has been able to figure this out for me yet, so I'll give the above a try! :pac:

Thanks again for going to the trouble to find out for me!
