Hi, would anyone know of cheaper alternatives to Zinc roofing which look as good . We are building a new house which has a curved standing seam zinc roof. We are based in the midlands and would appreciate any recommendations,
    Thanks

The builder about to do our extension is going using a single ply membrane with a standing Seam effect... I think it's Trocal is the brand , no idea who sells it ... I wasn't bothered about the zinc effect for the roof of a back extension I won't see... Builder suggested it. Looks good in pictures though ....

I recently has an extension built and we had a roofer fit a silka trokal roof membrane. He did a first rate job and I would have no hesitation in recommending him. I know that he also does a zinc affect roof covering with ridges through it. The link to his website is below and it will take you directly to some pics of recent work with the kind of finish you mentioned. He is based in cork so I dont know if that suits you.

Side note to the mods: Im not sure if you are allowed to put a link to recommend a tradesperson but I can assure he and I are not the same person, Im just a satisfied customer only too happy to recommend him to someone else, cheers, Darragh!!

When thinking of roof replacement, there are many alternatives to use as roofing material. Asphalt shingles, built-up roofing, solar shingles, and single-ply roofing are just few of these materials. These <SNIP> are great for saving money and good for the environment.

Would you care to explain how asphalt shingles and single-ply roofing membranes are good for the environment? And what the sqft cost of solar shingles is? And btw why you feel an American contractors website is of any help in Ireland?

There is a company based in the UK that do a standing seam coloured roof cladding that works down to a 5 degree pitch and is very price competitive against similar alternatives that I could find.
I am looking into this at the moment, the problem I am finding is getting a regestered fitter in the republic but the material is shipped over cut to fit so a good roofer could tackle this I'm sure.
PM me if you would like the product name.
