How are they on petrol and what are the usual problems on them.
It has 80000 mls on it, haven't gone to inspect it yet but any info is appreciated.

That is pretty low mileage for a 10 year old car, does it have a service history?

ES is the basic model, very little creature comforts on it, the SE would be a better speced car. Common problems on that model include soft suspension and faulty heater matrix. Some of the valvetronic 4 cylinder engines give trouble too, don't have the specifics.

There was no ES sport model. It is either an ES or a M Sport. Do you have a link to the advert? Sorry, no idea on mpg.

The 318i of that vintage is 2.0 litre not 1.8 litre. The only thing sport about that particular car is the alloy wheels, everything else looks pretty standard ES base model.

This might be worth a look at, it's a M Sport with a few extras so they are worth a little more. Wouldn't pay €3500 for it though:

The warranty from a garage on a 10 year old car is not going to cover much as there is very little profit on cars of that age. BTW the second one I posted is from a dealer.

Most common problems with the M42 engines are timing chains, if it has a fully stamped up service book it might not be too bad. Most warranties on a 10 year old car more then likely will be engine and gearbox
