Will the unions be demanding a decrease in driver's pay?

Now they are no longer flying "747s"...

Why would they?? don't they have the same responsibility with an 4 car train.

I think the point OLOK was making was that when DARTs were originally been extended to eight carriage operation, drivers looked for increased pay. Now saying that with the shorter size trains will they look for reduced pay.

From what I could gather is this just an arrangement over the summer?

It would be impossible to continue to run short trains once the school / college term resumes. At the risk of being chewed I'd hazard 4 car trains will be able to handle many (but not all) peak services in August... Expect normal service to resume from the last week in august as the schools return...

I'm sure this wouldn't be allowed under the Croke Park agreement.

Just to be clear - they didn't get any rise in pay for driving longer trains. They looked for it but were rightly told to forget it.

Excellent point from one of the few posters talking sense around here. Fire the whole "old guard" and bring in some fresh blood. Thousands of unemployed and energetic young people would love to begin a career with the railways and would work for a fraction of train drivers' current wages. Slimy, greasy leeches bleeding every last cent from the state...millions squandered on the railways over the years with no visible improvements.

I don't think Irish Rail is covered by the Croke Park agreement.

But even if it was, I'm sure the no-one would object if unions and their members were asking for pay to be decreased ;).
